Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Lost of new PEs?

Is just me or is anyone else seeing a huge number of people elevated to PE, Sr. PE and fellow? I have seen easily over 30-40 post of new PE….

Rumor I heard is that they took a bunch of gr10. Managers and converted them to PE to make them Look as ICs so they wouldn’t be fired.

Very few people deserved to become PE, and now they have diluted any minimal value it had.

@OP yes I noticed that too mainly from LinkedIn. It's a lame attempt to retain people while simultaneously making them do the work of those who have been CPM'd. I was surprised that people are falling for that. It will be a rude awakening. PE and VP titles became watered down from long back.

PEs are meaningless outside of Intel. I see many have to take a step down at their next job

These f-c king Intel PEs are looking on YouTube videos to solve simple problems. No background semi conductor or fabrication experiences.

@dx Not true -- this year, folks received promos to G10 outside of the previous peer review system -- and in parallel HR updated their job code to a PE code. It definitely was possible to be a G10 and not a PE -- but this year, that system was broken for retention. Go browse through the people site -- you may find "leaders" in your group now have PE titles but did not get their new PE status broadcast to your org in an email -- those folks got a G10 promo and an HR job code update.

I don't believe OP doesn't want to be a PE

GR10 is a PE grade already. There are no GR10s who are not PEs.

Its the Peter Principle. All levels of management are to rise to a level of respective incompetence. Intel is now homogenized for complete incompetence.

No, not a lot of new PE’s happening. That would require a round of nominations/reviews, which last happened late last year. Troll or placebo, doesn’t matter which

@OP No, the new PEs are not lost.

PE promos are being using as a retention tool to keep folks who would have otherwise jumped ship during the latest round of job changes -- folks who had a job role change were all allowed to leave with a package. As usual, those doing the promos have no idea who the actual good talent is, so many strange promotions.

@a6 This. Don't trust your managers unless you know how much debt they have.

@aa not true. Are there bad PEs? Sure! But most of them are very good.

The PE and Sr.PE application is a joke. I have seen below average people become PE and Sr.PE over the years while good deserving folks not. These people cant solve a problem without checking chatgpt. Look in PEG and you will know

Means nothing. Intel GR10 managers and PEs are being low balled in the industry now. Intel PEs used to be hired directly as AMD fellows of which there are plenty, nothing exclusive, but not anymore. Now i hear AMD recruiters try to low balled Intel PEs to PMTS which really used to be an intel Gr8 or Gr9 role.

That's by design. You make the lower level go and shrink the higher level to the lower level until you can no longer hide from the problems. Intel, by design and determination, cultivated this chain and will go down by the chain.
