Thread regarding Sharp Memorial Hospital layoffs

More cuts to come?

What are your thoughts? are they done? this may drag on and i am totally unsure about the criteria they are using, it seems random? Anyone knows what's the determining factor here? Tenure? Comp? FT/PT? It's so hard to find a pattern as we have things all over the place now.

@fe Interesting - I hadn’t heard about that. I’ve been involved in layoff decisions twice, and both times it included some form of ranking employees on key metrics. I can’t say that’s what happened here, but I’d be surprised if it wasn’t part of the equation. Top performers usually get special treatment, as they should.

I also suspect they reviewed service areas to ask: is this essential, and if so, could we temporarily do it cheaper with contractors?

@eb disagree! We have one employee who was given the option of being fired or severely restricted hours. She chose the latter. She is a very high performer.

Done for now, just waiting to see what happens with Medicaid. Cuts were based on a mix of low patient impact and performance, even though they’re framing it as non-performance based. Realistically, it's always the lowest performers who go.
