Comcast has received $232.4 million in disclosed ACP (Affordable Connectivity Program) reimbursements through February 2023 from the U.S. government—funded by taxpayer money. The question remains: how much additional undisclosed funding has the company received?
Despite this substantial government support, Comcast has implemented significant workforce reductions in the United States since last year. The company has been encouraging senior employees to accept voluntary separation packages and recently announced the shutdown of several divisions, which will result in over 6,000 additional U.S. job losses.
Simultaneously, Comcast is hiring more than 7,000 employees in India through CIEC (Comcast International Engineering Center), despite not conducting substantial business operations in that country.
This pattern of accepting taxpayer-funded subsidies while eliminating American jobs and expanding operations overseas raises questions about corporate responsibility and the appropriate use of public funds. It would be beneficial if the current administration examines such business practices and considers whether policy adjustments are needed to ensure that companies receiving government support maintain their commitment to the American workforce.
