Layoff meeting

Hi everyone,
I’m wondering how these layoff meetings usually work, as I’m afraid I might have mine this week.
Were you able to ask any additional questions? Did you see it coming? And how long did the meeting last?

I got 4k as a special bonus. I was 60 the rest weren't and they did not get this special bonus. I'm assuming it was because I was 60.

I call bs on the bonus for those of us over 60. I didn't get one. And don't know of any of my grey hair friends laid off getting one either.

Ah, precious memories. I was foolishly in the office. It was a teams call that I took in the RR3 clubhouse area. My manager robotically read the standard script. "your job has been affected by a workforce reduction. HR will follow up with documents...." It was pretty surreal to hear those words after 20 years with people laughing and grabbing coffee and playing ping pong all around me.

One of my favorite parts of the process was when I sent a simple question to my HR contact, and she snapped at me for not using the WFR mailbox. My last day was that Friday, and I chose not to do any additional work or answer any work or project questions from that moment on. Friday morning i went on up to RR2 and handed in my equipment. That was that. Now, I just keep an eye on these boards and flip the bird at RR1 whenever I drive past on the toll road. It really was a great change for me though!

VP did mine. She read a 1 minute script then HR dufus talked for 10 minutes about cobra which I didn't care about. She had a lot of questions for me about if I had any Dell social accounts. I didn't say anything other than "OK" because what's the point.

I got an invite late Friday for a Monday morning meeting. 1 minute in the dude read from an HR script. HR not on the line or invited. Did not answer any questions other than to say it was a workforce reduction, my position was impacted and performance was not a factor. He hung up after 10 minutes and I didn’t hear from her ever again. Worked the rest of the week, and spent years and endless hours of my life. Not even a goodbye and good luck from my manager.

HR is no longer involved. Just manager saying they have a script to read and being a total DI-KHEAD. Then email from HR. Severance documents 3 business days after end of work date.

My leader just called me. No invite or HR on the phone. Started off with “ this is going to be an uncomfortable call” “but you have been identified as part of a workforce reduction “. The rest was a script that they read with no emotion. They ended it with “ I’m sorry and Thank you for your years of service “,
Within 30 minutes an email from HR arrived with all the instructions and what my severance package was.
With all the volume of people that were impacted, they setup an email alias to submit your questions to,

Your manager will dramatically pause and say, “Wait, I’ve got a very important call for you,” then patch you in like they’re unveiling a grand surprise.

Enter stage left: Script-Bot 3000, reading their lines with all the passion of a vending machine. They’ll drone on, oblivious, as if this is Shakespeare.

And then your cue! Blast the shotg-n sound effect at full volume, slam the curtain down by hanging up, and exit the scene with style. Bravo.

Depending on where you are in the world, if you feel this is imminent, talk with a lawyer. I've heard even though they might push you to sign right away, I believe in certain countries, you cannot be forced to sign on the spot.

Got talk to a labor lawyer.

Generally you'll join, your manager will be on, HR will join, manager will drop and they read you a script. There is nothing to discuss, you either accept the severance terms or leave without being paid.
