Thread regarding SAP layoffs

When will SAP start firing engineers?

Spotify says its best developers haven’t written a line of code since December, thanks to AI

This is exactly what SAP is also aiming for. So when are the layoffs coming and will engineers be a part of that?

@e4 the new csm model has them completely focused on sales related tasks. Fine, but there is no focus on really knowing the solutions they are aligned to. It’s really not their fault, didn’t use to be that way. Some really had some strong technology skills, not anymore.

@e4 that's one place they're right. Fed up of CSMs constantly messaging me on teams about how they're customer is the most important, and they need a speed up. Like I don't have 5 other CSMs saying the exact same thing. They're whole job is getting emails from customers and then forwarding the annoying demands to development and support. A job easily done by AI.

Our management also wants to get rid of many customer success managers as they can think Joule can easily replace them.

Technical writers, Quality Assurance Specialists and Product Managers will be first to be laid off. HPOM has already shown that we have too many of those compared to what the McKinsey thinks we need. And the board and executives in every area follow exactly what McKinsey suggests.

The safest jobs right now are in HR, design and managers.

SAP will soon move onto a model where a manager has to manage 7-10 low paid employees and 1-2 external consultants and 4-5 AI agents. That’s the most cost efficient model.

They also started letting support engineering and operations staff go so the real question is how much do they want to cannibalize their ability to provide support

Sure, but you can also ki-l production very easily by accident with AI (even with most advanced one “let me first delete the instance and set it up new”). Mistakes will be very costly.

Support engineers will be the first to go. We are being coached to use very specific, AI-friendly formats when we right articles. This is so that AI can parse through these articles more efficiently and act as a support engineer. The same technology is used to parse through resumes. The next step will likely be to evaluate AIs performance when it engages with customers to help optimize responses.

They are very unlikely to talk about this or announce it as it would demoralize support engineers and encourage rebellion.

Stop spreading rumors. There are no layoffs. Christian Klein or Dominik Asam never said there will be layoffs. They just want better efficiency from lazy employees.
