I hope my trust that management only lays off people as a very last measure is justified.

After all, I gave them reasonably good marks in the survey.

Are you sure it's QA and not UA (User Assistance Devs)?
I have heard the layoff reports of UAs as well like it was mentioned in the original mongoose thread on this website.

@e3 the supervisory board isn’t going to be an ally of the employees. Particularly when Rene Obermann becomes the chairman.

@e4 Don’t forget that AI is also replacing program and project managers in delivery services with 30-40 years of experience. Check your project schedules for hard-coded dates instead of forward scheduling.

“These arrogant managers who think that Support, Dev and QA engineers are useless are the ones who need to go..”

While I agree with you, this will not happen. Not sure if you heard but they did an interesting experiment at Signavio. Non-technical DEI coaches were made development managers due to HPOM and the engineering teams are now struggling. These are the same kind of managers who haven’t written a single line of code in their life and think that AI can replace developers and QA engineers and support engineers. And when they “evaluate” their direct reports, the new performance management system makes it easy for them to say that employees in these roles are unfit or not as performant as AI.

Despite this stupidity, Signavio is seen as an HPOM success story and it is only a matter of time before this idiocracy is replicated in other areas.

@dj it will end after SAP is composed of just the board and Joule bots. Haha

On a more serious note, is there a way to hold the board and HR accountable? There seems to be no strategy from the board besides “we’re doing AI to increase profits” and “we’re doing layoffs to decrease costs”. This will only harm SAP in the long term.

The Supervisory Board and Works Council also seem to be in cahoots with them. In P3, almost half of the Works Council took great “deals” and quit instead of fighting back for workers rights.

@d6 First were Support, then POs, then Developers, now QAs...is three anyone who knows how a software product is used by customers ?

I've been in different positions and the customer has its own deployment and you can't reproduce inhouse every single configuration so you need experienced Support, Devs and QAs to understand, investigate and fix customers problems and needs...when this nonsense is going to end ?

These arrogant managers who think that Support, Dev and QA engineers are useless are the ones who need to go..

@cr Its hilarious, using AI to derive tests from the code. This was the defacto straw man, writing tests to hit coverage of code rather than as a way to validate the functionality matched the requirements. This is just going to increase our production outages from shoddy code vibed together and then validated by machine. You can only skimp on quality for a short period of time before it starts to effect the bottom line.

@d1 I wonder which roles the board and HR will come after next. Obviously HR roles are safe.

@cr Using AI for QA work… what could possibly go wrong?

@cm no hiring in India either.

There are talks of using AI solutions for QA roles so I expect more QA engineer layoffs in other locations.

They got rid of migrants on visas. UK citizens are unaffected.
