Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Hopeful stories after layoffs

I was thinking recently about a few folks who were cut last year and ended up landing on their feet in surprising ways. One started freelancing and now earns more with half the stress, and another moved abroad and rebuilt her whole routine. Knowing examples like that helps me see that losing a job is not the end of the road. Knowing full well I might be next, hearing about real wins keeps me grounded. Any sign that life can turn in a better direction helps right now.

'all they care about is saving their face'

of course. when you leave for better the bitterness and envy sinks in. they were unable to do better despite how "talented" they were.

Not laid off but lots around me were WFRd. I took a role with a direct competitor. More money, more respect, more humanity, full remote. Dell is now considered a laughing stock over here, especially after the csg device naming change. I cannot believe how blessed I was to escape

in my group, a. young kid was promtoed even though he took two parental leaves during the year. Go figure. The rest of us got no raise and some even laid off.

Was not laid off but took a job with a competitor. I feel like I have been finally released from a prison. Even when I was leaving, the management kept being deluded and admitting zero faults! The way they were brainwashing my fellow teammates on why I was leaving was ridiculous. They couldn’t take it!

They don’t give a f when they lay people off but when it’s the other way around, all they care about is saving their face. And once it was final, my boss stopped responding to me. They just don’t care about us even in the slightest!

GET OUT PEOPLE IF YOU CAN!!! Let the rats sink with that ship. Have some self-respect and work on your self esteem and exit plan. You are ALL very talented people and deserve to be treated that way!

@e3 This will NEVER happen in the US. I can't speak for the EU and JPAN regions but they have far better and different laws than the US does...

If Dell ever introduced a VSP in the US? I honestly think that a solid 1/4th would take it and run. Problem is is that Dell KNOWS this.

Think about all the remote employees who were brought on to BE remote, only to find out 2 years later that remote employees are no longer eligible for promotion - unless you move close to an office and GO INTO the office? Those poor folks are stuck in a literal dead end job. I'd bet 99% of them would gladly take a VSP.

Then you have the rest who are driving a solid hour+ (SOME people legitamtely are driving an hour) to a mostly empty office to "collaborate" with nobody because your team is either global or spread all around the country; and still have 100% of your meetings via zoom or TEAMS. I'd bet a solid 50% of those folks would gladly take the VSP as well. I am 45 mins out and stay for 2 hours at most, then go home to my dog and comfort of my own home to "collaborate" with everyone via TEAMS meetings lol.

Let's not forget the FACT that promotions have been MIA for the US for the last 5 or 6 years and raises have been moop. Or that onsite ammenties have been taken away and the cafeterias F-KCING BLOW now. At least varry up the damn grill line from burgers, chicken fingers and fries?

If you are motivated and talented, jobs will always be available. Dell is not the end-all, be-all. With that said, Dell should focus on letting people go who want to leave through voluntary separation plans. Has anyone heard of VSPs happening?

@ak

Yes. Dell is a perpetual misery trap.

It's not a company with a few kr---y hotspots. You are actually immersed in sewage so it stinks everywhere you go that it becomes "normal."

It's only when you are in another company that you can see/smell clearly.

I was scared to death of WFR and blindsided when it happened after almost 25 years. I landed on my feet pretty quickly. I've lost 35 pounds, improved my health dramatically, make more salary and receive equity with a lot of upside. My new company treats people with respect and value. When we talk strategy and operating plans, we are growing double digit top line with significant hiring planned for next year. It's a far cry from the he-l that became my Dell existence. What Dell is doing is not normal, and it's not healthy for employees. Good luck.

the only real loss in losing dell is losing the immediate paycheck.
Dell in of itself is a dumpster fire.

If you can ride out the missing pay check, then long term you are more likely better off.
things dont get better at dell. they just get worse
