Status Update on July 2024 Layoff Victims

Just curious for those that were laid off in July 2024 how your job search went or is still ongoing? I still see some people on LinkedIn who never updated their position which makes me believe many are still out of work. On one hand, I feel for your struggles, but on the other hand, I honestly think it’s a blessing to not have to deal with the turmoil.

@182 that's only relevant for sales. The greater majority of the laid off victims that are still unemployed were not sales.

The majority of us still have not found work. Sammy threw us all on our as--s into the worst job market of this century so far. Yes the 07-09 bubble burst was bad, but nothing compared to this. 2020 doesn't count since that was a farce in many ways. This market though? Saturated with people desperate for work, many of which have been out of work for 2+ years.

If the non-competition, non-solicitation agreement that they signed when hired was only for one year then Canon has no leg to stand on right? But then, I wonder why the NY legislation is trying to have that practice stopped by corporations in NY state. I guess we will all find out when it finally hits the press if Canon is going after xemployees.

This is d-mb. Non compete with Canon is only one year. It’s been 14 months this since the layoff.

@14j Let me get this straight. They cut people and gave them no choice in this economy to find another job. Those people found work and are now being punished for finding work? It’s giving, “I don’t want to be with you anymore, but I don’t want you with anyone else” vibes. As a customer I find this disgusting. I’m not renewing.

People aren't being litigated because they updated their linked in, they are being litigated for noncompete. Its that when you update you linkedin then you telegraph to the world where you are working now. And we ALL know how Canon HR is monitoring all the social media. So yes, people are not updating their job status.

Same as prior commenter. Now in drastically better culture, $70Kish more take home. Glad it happened. Not looking back.

I ended up with an amazing job. Incredible team. Massively supportive company. Getting laid off ended up being a blessing in disguise. About as far away from Canon and their products as anyone could get. I feel for the folks still out of work and it’s sad to hear from friends how things are now at Canon.

I fail to see how any company can litigate a former employee for updating their LinkedIn page to reflect their present status. The company would be on flimsy legal grounds if they tried pulling that cr-p. In fact, the company could be sued.

Back in school transitioning into the medical field. I am grateful for Canon showing me what I don’t want to do with my life and laying me off sooner than I would have quit. That experience fueled my search for better careers + companies.
Will always remember the horrendous leadership at Canon.

This is a curious question being put out there. Everyone I know is working and quite a number of them do not want to update their LinkedIn profile. Why? A few of them that did update are being litigated that they are in breach of their separation agreement for non-compete.

@dw Ok but you technically did in fact, have a comment or two ijs. Are you selling Canon brand at the dealer to get the sweet golden eagle points?

No comments can express or convey my feelings about this. I was able be hired with one of the regional dealers and now take every opportunity to sell and win against the toxic dysfunction that you’ve become. Sad to see such a good company devolve and unravel so quickly. If you are still hoping and hanging on for a buyout, change in leadership or a severance plan, reconsider. Looking back I wish I would have left 5 yrs ago and controlled my own destiny. Empower yourself and rediscover a career that brings you happiness. There are a lot better paying and more rewarding companies out there. Don’t settle and fall into the abyss that the current leaders are so eagerly paddling towards, or worse have just started drifting towards themselves. No leadership is worse than poor leadership. If you don’t like the direction, stop complaining and do something.

There are still many people out of work from the last major layoff in July 2024 as well as those and their families from the 2020 layoffs who have not fully recovered.
