High Level Breakdown of Layoffs

Article talks about union (IAM/SPEEA) and non-union. Locations (specificly Washington and non-Washington) and even dabbles a little in BDS v BCA

For SPEEA, the reps are supposed to distribute the info to the member in their district. there are also people who doesn't want to get the info, the thing is, SPEEA headquarter only holds the names of who wants to opt out. There's nothing like "I want important info but not the daily news" (who's going to make that determination of importance at the first place). Those who doesn't trust the Union are normally those who opt out to receive info, and also those complain about not getting the info.

I have to admit there are lazy reps, there are pro-active reps and there are passive average reps, but the reps are not union-officers or staffs, they are employees who were voted to sit in the union for the members, just like congressmen, they are the bridge between the union and the member when it comes to info sharing (for SPEEA, each rep is responsible for 200 members, not sure about IAM). unlike congressmen, they are volunteers and get no pay check from the Union or the member (but cheap meal are provided for most of the meetings), in exchange, they can't be layoff unless the cut is so deep (for SPEEA prof, they are safe for approximately the first 50% layoff, but once the cut is so deep into 50%+ of the same skill, they are no longer protected by the special clause).

Again, using this time as an example, my rep provides my district with the break down of VLO and ILO, Tech vs. Prof, on Friday (as long as you don't opt out, and as long as you can access to the email in file, in my case, my work email). Another rep in a different district provide a detail break down of the VLO more than a week ago, down to how many years of service, what level, what retention, but I didn't get that from my own rep. The reps get their info from SPEEA headquarter. if you think your rep didn't provide enough info, vote him/her out next time. Boeing provide names to the union headquarter just hours (or just minutes) before they share the number with the media. And for this round of layoff, I got the SPEEA related ILO and VLO breakdown from my rep before I see it on from media.

They have gave us the numbers. There are lots of logistics that need to be worked out. They are probably finalizing this. Where people will be moved etc... maybe even wether or not they will let people leave closer to june1 and be paid until July 31 lay-off date. They aren’t being mean.

We didn't get any of this from the Union or the Company. As usual we get it from the news media.

Funny, when we ask for a breakdown as simple as what is in the article, we are told that they don't have the information. When the media asks, they put it all out there.

If Boeing reads this, this is why we don't trust you, thisbis why we are p-ss-d. I remember DC saying he was going to be transparent. Well, you are being transparent with the wrong people. Try it with your employees, I think you will be amazed with the results.

The International Association of Machinists (IAM) told its 31,000 members that approximately 3,800 of them will soon receive layoff notices, in addition to the 1,150 Machinists who accepted the company buyout
I didn’t get shot from the union, this is from the time article
