Thread regarding Ford layoffs

The water is not that cold

I left earlier this year:
Mainly because I could no longer accept the toxic culture. It took me nearly 2 years to find the right job. It was hard.
But I found it.

Here is what I learned since joining a new company.
Yes, Ford treats everyone poorly.
Yes, other companies care about expertise.
Yes, you have to learn new things

But the grass is currently greener in other places and the environment is less toxic.

This is true from the entry worker to upper management.

If you are unhappy: jump. The water is not that cold.

@ds I went to a dollar store for the first time in my life last week, it wasn't that bad, but I think everything was more than a dollar.

Dollar store ain't bad chief. When you consider the layers of management. Lots less stress. Think about it. Or would you rather deal with production deadlines no one can meet because they keep missing milestones? Keep it. Come see me at Dollar General when your wife has left you and you've had your 2 heart attack.

Ford (as well as GM) are going through the FAFO phase about the overhead and high maintenance of these employees that are from these west coast SV companies. It's a process they will either learn from or not. Lack of ownership is rampant. Not a good sign for something that is reportedly the future of a 120+ year old car company.

@cc

Agree. People that complain but take no action have little leverage.

@b3 you are just not good at math. I started looking 3 years ago. And finally found something I like.
My point is, it takes time to find a good job. If you do not like where Ford is headed, start looking.

I've been looking extremely hard for a new job outside of Ford since April. I've got 20 years of expertise and applied to a number of roles. Nothing yet as it's a brutal job market; few openings and hyper-competitive. I try to stay positive. Working at Ford is so horrific.

If you are reasonably competent the math sure does add up. You just have to be worth your salary and know it, that's all. The public sentiment wants you to believe things are very bad and you need to hold on to what you have. These are some of the same people that have been lying to you your whole life. Its never as bad as it seems, and its never as good as it seems.

@b3 they started looking three years ago?

@b3 sure it does. OP started looking two years before he left.

In other words, if you start looking now in two years you'll find something and leave.

The math maths.

I’m a bit confused.

“ I left earlier this year”
“ It took me nearly 2 years to find the right job”

The math doesn’t add up.

Well said and great words of advice. The Dean of Engineering/my academic advisor at the college I graduated from put it like this: "FIT, or GIT". Those words have never yet to fail me.

Just another observation to think about. Those that can leave will leave. Those that won't leave usually can't leave because no one in their right mind would hire them. That explains it all in most instances. "GO BIG or GO HOME"!

The company turned into a S.t hole with these rotten Apples. My whole management left because of these digusting creates from California.

op, why do you hang out on a Ford layoff site if you are happy now? Seems like you haven't really been able to move on, yeah?

Sad!

I'm in the middle of jumping ship too. The internal processes at Ford are brutal and I do not see a future for me here anymore. The work su-ks and is not challenging from an engineering perspective. I work within CE1 and the toxic culture exists from all the former Apple people who are on the team. I came from Automotive and there is a serious lack of respect and they think they know best. Good riddance!

Did you take a giant leap and move to West Virginia to become a Coal Miner?
I bet you chickened out though and stayed put sulking and working at Dollar Store now.
