Amazes me daily contractors loving there positions at XOM. Must be nice to make twice my salary as an hourly contractor. Oh but you get benefits!….Seriously, so do they! And we pay for that. Oh but you will get a pension….. if I’m lucky! If you’re smart only go to ExxonMobil as a contractor. They get treated better than employees. Kudos to the PIP’d ones I’ve seen come back as contractors!….WTF?!?! Not good enough to be an employee, but let us pay you more to be a contractor!…. While we hardly give our employees raises.

@qh This is the reason why this company struggles during the downturns. There is no way that any person involved with the safety department is worth that kind of money in my opinion. How do they justify paying someone that much that doesn’t bring any actual value to the company?
Current situation… older employees get eliminated in favor of hat contractors Or space fillers from Bangalore
I know coupe SSHE Supts in WS/WD making $1500/day on a 5/2 or 14/14 schedule plus perks…..
I don’t think a retired employee coming back as a contractor is an issue. I think the original poster was referring to the worthless contractors out in the Delaware and I’m sure west Texas as well that get paid quite a bit of money, but aren’t really that talented at their jobs. 40+ years experience is invaluable in this industry.
@dq. 40+ year annuitant. Came back on contract with retainer. Many of us. Don't worry, we'll keep the real cash rolling in.
To the person that said they get $275 an hour just know once the oil prices crash you will be the first to go.
Also, what contract company offers a pension? I know some do a 401K but I’ve never heard of one doing a pension.
More importantly what job in the oilfield is worth $275 an hour?
I must admit, it is awesome. Full retirement pension, benefits plus now $275/hr on retainer, no less. All thanks to the inabilities of the know-it-alls. Thank you,thank you!

Yes there are many contractors that make more hourly than what they would make as a company employee, but they usually don’t have the same level of benefits as company employees. My theory for the contract employees in Carlsbad is that most of them can’t pass a dr-g test or background check so they stay as a contractor. Plus they usually don’t have trackers on their trucks so they use them as their personal vehicle.
