Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Why would anyone quit now without a new job lined up?

A coworker is so fed up with Intel's bullsh-t that he's thinking about just walking out - no severance, no backup plan. I get it, he's upset, but this is the worst time to make such a move! There are zero jobs available. And with layoffs happening, severance is basically guaranteed. Why would anybody throw that away?

Best thing to do is to first land a new job before quitting. Despite what a few others are saying here, IT jobs are not that plentiful right now. You will be competing with a lot of other applicants for most jobs. Depending on your skill set and age, it could take you many months to get a job offer.

No jobs?
I'm 70 years old and have gotten two unsolicited WFH job offers making more than what I was making at intel.
I turned them both down because the combination of my intel severance and New pay would push me into a crazy tax bracket.

@dpj, the main reason Intel is failing. Forcing the experience people to take VSP and ER and then turn around and hire new RCG. So d-mb.

On Monday we got a flash message, 22 job openings need filling in our group as a result of folks taking VSP and ER. Will be open until the end of the WW37, positions in OR/AZ/NM and CAL grades 6-10.

Don’t quit!! Be prepared. Personally I and I have noticed my close colleagues are all having a very difficult time finding other opportunities. Don’t quit it might be months to years before you find something. Easier to find a job when you have a job.

There are always jobs out there for the people who keep their skills up, deliver results, and have a network of friends in the industry.

Stop feeling sorry for yourselves and get those three areas of your personal life cleaned up if you can not find a job.

Intel has been in tough condition for 25 years, most of you guys working there knew it was not the Intel of the late 60's ... this problem just did not happen

You don't own 3 houses. Don't pay your property tax, and the government takes them away. Therefore, they own your houses.

Some folks are just exhausted mentally and physically …. Most will of course tuff it out until they can get severance , but for some poor souls enough is enough and better to through the dice externally …

The Op forgot all those employees close to 65 who just want to retire. I’m 60 I have 3 houses mortgage free and money in the bank. Now I get to leave with a severance. Easy choice for me. There many more folks with 30+ Years of service who are leaving with ERP

Because it's the responsible thing to do after assessing the situation. Not something that Intel-ian is known for, obviously.

OP, just wait for your feeding spoon, no need to question it. :)

"There are zero jobs available."

Only for PowerPoint experts.

Actually there are many non BS jobs available but you'll have to roll
up your sleeves to get one.
