Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

What's it like at Dell Federal these days?

Dell Federal was always the darling (along with Global). Federal had their own building annex next to building 3 when I was there (for -security- and their red outlined badges to easily identify them as part of the elite Fed team). They had the most lifers and boomers @ Dell. Many ex-military. Life couldn't get better at Dell if you were in Dell Federal Sales. Do they still reign supreme with their easy Government appropriations and special blanket purchase agreements worth billions of dollars... most of the mega easy commissions checks cut by Dell were for Federal AEs, ISRs, SEs and ISG/CSG TSRs. Hope they are still doing well and raking in the cash.

@dp I find it ironic that we would use AI with Fed Agencies that are still on antiquated systems. Fed Govt is not up to speed with technology.

@dp it has gone downhill the only thing used to be good about federal was DellStar and Doms were still afforded to reps now that is gone so nothing elite about federal there are many overlays getting paid by booked deals this is how many organizations are funded by serial tagging of booked business (huge shell game) Also prior military are not really valued either many are older reps with many past merit raises who have been WFR'd to be backfilled by the young and clueless

They are trying to move faster than they can govern it. They make the claim that they are building the car while driving it like it's a badge of honor, but in reality they are at the top of a hill, put everyone on a sled, no path, no track, no brakes and trees on one side with a cliff at the end.

I work in fed, it’s gone downhill just like the rest of the company. We started SmartPrice at the beginning of the year and quotas are through the roof. It is becoming a mass exodus recently and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. The large Microsoft contracts you are seeing, nobody on the sales teams gets paid for them, they all flow directly to the company no matter the customers buying off of them.

Fed is very relationship driven so good luck replacing us with AI. The government requires human interaction so either our partners will take over and raise their margins or the USG will go elsewhere.

@c3 If you can be replaced by A.I. or an HB1, Dell doesn't care what area you work in.

@OP Your post reads like diversion bait. As if you’re hinting to executives to focus their cuts on ‘easy money’ made by sellers in the Fed space.

PS- Dell budgeted $225M for cuts following their strongest quarter ever.

I was workkng in Federal for EMC in Hopkinton. I was one of the few non-veterans on the team. Dell prefers veterans for these roles because many of them already know the military systems, hierarchy, and have prior security clearances from the military.

I was one of the few non-vets because I had security clearances from a previous job and during the interview mentioning I would rather deal with a CPO than an ensign when it came to getting anything done.

That being said, I don’t recall a whole lot of extra privileges or consideration granted to us. As far as the ethnic mix, it looked pretty much like the rest of EMC. Gee women, but the men outnumber women in tech roles anyway at the time
