Even now they are setting them up for failure. They had a chance to remove those folks and bring technical project managers back but no hope seeing who were laid off and who is still there. If you are still SM or SM CL don't wait ..just move out to a different role

@dp this 100%. They were set up for failure. There was no way to be successful with an agile model in a myopic and highly regulated org.

what is the role of SM Chapter lead, just a people manager with zero skills, making life's of SM's harder by constantly taking about metrics. Earlier SM's reported to Engineering Chapter Leaders where SM's were involved in Database querying and Release /jenkins/Github. After forming the SM chapter, all technical SM's lost those privilleges and are asked only to coach. what rubbish! SM Chapter Leaders please justify your role.

@dk This is what so many of the posts complaining about SMs miss. Fidelity was never Scrum nor Agile. They asked for it but never wanted what it was supposed to be. Yes there were some really bad SMs in Fidelity but there were also a lot that tried to do good and were shut down. Arrogant people who have no idea what a SM should be complain that it's a bad role when they should be complaining that Fidelity had a bad implementation.

As an SM, I’ll tell you that I really tried to make a difference and enact change/try new things etc but when I was constantly shut down by squad leads and chapter leads that pulled the rank card over and over again telling me how they do it is perfect and they don’t need change, I got jaded and fell into my own lane of facilitating meetings, project managing and admin duties. I get paid decent money even though I’m treated like a 2nd class citizen all day so I’ll take it while I apply elsewhere. Some of what you guys bring up isn’t entirely our fault, the org has struggled to let go of hierarchy and doing things the agile way, hence why the org structure change is going where it’s going.

everyone literally loves me i have no idea what u r talking about. I brought bagels, remembered peoples birthdays, remembered if they didn’t wanna bring attention to their birthday. I shared my dab pen in the bathroom. What more could u ask for. I even brought the pledge of allegiance back in 2024 during DEIdoom. U will miss me one day trust

@OP oh do tell.... what role, may I ask, do you have - Mr or Ms holier than thou.m? Maybe you're a developer who didn't like to be held accountable by your teammates in retros. Or, maybe you wanted to go back to the days when you can take your sweet time coding something that should take a day but you delivered it in a week. Maybe you long for the days when you threw things over the wall to QA in a waterfall shop and argued with someone when they found a defect. Karma is a b-tch and with an attitude like yours I'm betting people are hoping your job's next on the RIF list

How much of a miserable, short-sighted, koolaid drinking dou--e do you have to be to come on here and complain about common roles like SMs when we have execs at the top getting paid more than an entire team combined making bad decisions that create a mess for all of us? Do society a favor and don't procreate.

We still have majority of underperforming SM and SM CLs in FI who are going to be Project Managers as if changing title makes them perform better suddenly.

@OP Now good luck to you guys as best performers are gone and you are going to deal with the rest. Come back to vent more

@OP Ask company and managers why they specifically changed and confined the scrum master role that was hard to operate from last 3 years. It is not individual at fault, its organization and managers
