Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Transitioning to Optum

My home health company has sold out to UHC and we will be fully aligned with Optum in January. My prior company was very generous with our PTO and let us carry over year to year. Does Optum allow you to do that? From the things I’ve read, I’m thinking if it’s more than a week you lose it. Just wondering if anyone has been in the process of being transitioned to Optum and what happened with your PTO.

Carry over 40 and purchase 40 so on 1/1/NY you'll have 80 hours to use.

Don't worry about PTO carry over, acquired employees get laid off quickly. Go find another job as this company is in the dumpster.

@OP I wouldn't worry about your PTO. You'll be replaced by India or Philippines in 6 months or less. Good luck to you.

@dn It all depends on the state you live in. For MN employee could only carry over 40 hours. In the last two years that changed to 80 hours due to a law passed by the MN legislature. (I can only imagine UHG lobbied against that)

If you come from an acquired company, there will be many layoffs in the months ahead. Factor that in to your decision making.

I have been with UHC/OPTUM for 20 years, have always only been allowed to carry over 40 hours, and it can't be 40 hours you purchased.

@b2 hi that’s not actually accurate. It is based on the state you live in. To the original poster, these details will be shared in the months leading up to your Integration, but it will be specific to the state you live in as Optum defaults to that. For example in CA employees can carry over up to 1.5x entire PTO balance accrued in a year. Other states like Washington only allow you to roll over 40 hours. Hope that helps!

A common theme I see with acquired companies is once integrated, they outsource as much as possible, don’t give raises to the existing staff and eventually do layoffs. Be very careful staying too long.

To answer your question, you can only carry over 40 hours. Anything above that is taken away.

Optum limits you to 40 hours unless you live in St Paul, then you get 80.
