I can’t shake how bad it feels to still be here while most of the talented people moved on. Waiting for change that never comes is exhausting. I know some are dealing by trying to coast quietly, but that just makes it worse since skills fade and it’s harder to move forward.

OP: "... skills fade and it's harder to move forward"
Absolutely agree with this statement and it is the primary reason I left TD as a Cloud Engineer. You can't exercise your technical skillset according to industry best practices at a personal level if the product you're working each day is not following best practices (aka Well-Architected Framework).
Sure you can take courses and keep certs up-to-date outside of work, but professionals often don't realize how far they drift or how much they lose until moving to the next company who does things right and they are odd-man out.
@m8 right but other companies have gone through transformations, Apple with their comeback in the 2000s. Tesla in 2012 with their Model S. Teradata is up and coming and is the place to be, change is uncomfortable but we are thriving.
@jd Love it. You identified the problem perfectly. Other companies are leading in AI. Teradata is “transitioning.” Good luck.
Teradata was and still is a great place with great technologies and management that cares. You can downvote me to your heart's content but name what you'd want to see done differently here? Management is leading us thru an AI transformation. How is coasting like OP said going to change anything at all? If OP wants to leave I respect that, but get they need to get their skills together, that's on them not Teradata. Personally I don't sympathize, TD has given OP numerous chances to grow and succeed
@gw Leys Hope that’s sarcasm. If not, you’re delusional.
@gs show some respect to the ELT they do more work in a day than you do in a day.
Thanks to Burning Man and his visionary approach to the Cloud.
The newbies dont understand what Teradata was like 10+ years ago when ELT started the quarterly layoffs.
What you see now is a distant reflection of what could have been.
I still cant believe the board hasn't canned McMillion. That guy is double ret@rded and the stock price reflects it.
@fs it is a combination of things actually, the thing the OP was trying to say it is very hard to be motivated and bring extra value besides doing your daily job when you see that company can't establish a good plan to win back the customers and stock is falling down and layoffs happen several times a year and not only so called deadwood affected, a lot of good engineers were let go, getting back to your comment, doing your job is not enough nowdays and always expecting to be laid off and keep preping is not something a lot of people are comfortable with, but i guess it's the case with a lot of companies nowdays, pretty sad reality
@fh I'm not a manager I'm a cloud engineer on vantage. There are also 7 people who upvoted my comment which is impressive because some of the salty people here agree that it's not Teradata that's the problem but OP coasting. Companies have to do layoffs it is a part of life, it seems OP isn't happy to be here so why not let teradata put them out of their misery and let them go?
Not completely a surprise, the gifted manager completely whiffed on understanding the OP post, which was he and the company are stuck in a rut and expressed what a grind it is that good people are no longer here, the work is stale, and hoping for a change or a spark to come to TD which becomes more unlikely by the day. Thinking Teradata is doing just fine is delusional and does border on comedy...after all, laughter is the best medicine.
@dk you dont have to try. comedy flows out of your posts involuntarily. you are a gifted comedian. did you ever try corporate comedy as a side hustle? you can make millions.
@ce I'm not even trying to have fun, I'm just saying do your job and still stop whining. OP said they literally weren't doing their job and I pointed that out. This site isn't the reality of teradata which is doing just fine
@az now we have fun in a new thread.
Oh yeah, I am so motivated after that stimulating management pep talk...rah rah rah! Go team! Gameboys down at the count of 5! Shaking my head...
You're exactly what's wrong with this company coasting is the definition of being deadwood. If you want to start feeling better about this company stop being a child, put down your Gameboy and start doing your job. When teradata interviewed you they gave you a job, not an allowance. Stop coasting and get your act together
