SUBJECT: Verizon Contract Extensions Ratified

Dear Local Presidents:
I am writing to announce that the majority of members in CWA District 1 have voted to
ratify the contract extensions at Verizon.
District 1 members in Verizon Wireless Retail and Tech both overwhelmingly ratified their
agreements.
Members represented by CWA District 2-13 in Mid-Atlantic, IBEW New England, IBEW New
York and IBEW New Jersey have overwhelmingly ratified their agreements.
The agreements will extend the contracts through August 3, 2030.

@ac the fact of the matter is despite the fact that there are some differences the way majority of the contract is the c exact same document- just continues on. so it is in fact an extension. there are things in that contract literally from the 80s and before.

@ab "secret kickbacks"?
What secret?
Who of us kids in the Hall has not enjoyed a secondary 401k?
A few weeklong trips to cool destinations in exchange for the inconvenience of a few hours meetings to teach us to "represent" our lessers?
A few questionable charges to the union credit card, which is accounted for in a different manner?
A couple of questionable political contributions to gain personal clout, and a future beyond this?

I guess I don't understand why they're calling it an extension. To me, an extension would imply that the terms remain the same and the current contract is being extended for a period of time. But this wasn't that, it was essentially new terms which makes it a new contract. So why are we calling it an extension? Wonder if there's some kind of psychology there. I guess it doesn't really matter, just seems strange to me
