Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Will there ever be anything but layoffs again?

I honestly regret not being let go a long time ago. To think that I was actually grateful to be spared during that never-ending round of cuts, a masterclass in drawn-out suspense…

@2cs This company was far more stable before merging with Viacom.

Layoffs happen at nearly every entertainment company constantly. To be honestly lately it’s not even just entertainment. It feels like nowhere is safe from annual or biannual anxiety around layoffs.

I’m jealous of earlier generations who felt more confident they could work for one company for 40 years and then retire.

Until the WSJ announced summer layoffs and dust settles after the merger and whatever Skydance decides their $2 Billion in cuts means, I highly doubt it.

Not sure how that’s a “bright spot”…

If true, that will result in further staff cuts and restructuring.

One bright spot from article https://nypost.com/2025/05/16/media/ellisons-will-go-on-buying-spree-should-paramount-skydance-deal-ever-get-green-light/ is that post-merger the Ellison's are going on a buying spree as they feel Paramount is too small to compete with industry giants like Comcast and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Might rather be blindsided instead of knowing just enough to get anxious. Check this board constantly but how much info is there? What's the layoff goal? Who is being targeted? There's a date going around and I believe it, but only counting down and assuming it's my last with no evidence is pretty distracting. I can relate to the feeling that I wish they got it over with in one of the last rounds but such a small percentage of people I know who were "impacted" last year have jobs yet so just gonna be grateful for the paycheck while everything seems pointless . ¯\(ツ)/¯

Then continue to be grateful. I've been part of layoffs and a bunch of companies where it's a complete surprise!! No, Town Hall meeting announcing it, no email, no website like this. Mentally, knowing it is coming is 100% better than going about your work day and being surprised by it...
