Although it definitely amounts to a pay cut, it doesn't change the fact that if you want to contribute more to your 401k, you still can.

Older individuals may choose to ride it out, but if you're younger, it's essential to seek external opportunities. With the drop from 4.5% to 3.5% in the 401k match, you're facing nearly a 23% reduction, not to mention the compounding interest you're missing out on. Also, keep in mind the upcoming increases in medical premiums for next year. Your financial situation has deteriorated, and it simply doesn't make sense to stay here—this is clearly their strategy to reduce severance costs.

While the job market is competitive and finding a new position may be challenging, you owe it to yourself to explore your options. You're currently doing the same work for less pay, and that’s not acceptable. Let's not even discuss bonuses or raises; we all know those will be near non-existent. It's time to take charge of your financial future and look for better prospects.

Ofcourse they lower our match! It's not gonna turn the stock price around. UHC is a sinking ship. I would suggest doing less work during the day since they clearly don't value anyone that actually does the work.

@dd b/c it's effective as of 1/1/2026 so I guess it will be revised on the site on 1/1

So if no email was received, it appears only certain employees were affected.

Where was this announced? I've talked to a few people throughout Optum and UHG and they aren't aware. I don't see anything on Sparq either.

UHG net income last quarter = $2.3 billion. They have never lost money, they're just greedy M f'ckers who don't give a rats a-s about their employees, the ones making them their billions. Fu-k you!

Yes the way it was messaged was even worse. No announcement, no reasoning, it is a total cowardly action to do it via fidelity and easily a slap in the face to employees.

Does cutting the 401k match via an unsigned email fall under compassion or integrity?

Fu-k them!

Something feels off across the company lately. After the merit inconsistencies last year, some groups losing bonuses, and now the 401k match being reduced, it feels like employees keep taking the hits. And during the town halls, the leadership messaging doesn’t seem to land anymore. There’s a big disconnect between what’s being said at the top and what people are actually feeling day to day. A lot of us don’t feel understood or valued. Morale feels low, people are tired, and many feel disconnected from the mission.

@a4 Just saw the email as one of my peers alerted me to this. What a bunch of cr-p! It's like UHG is daring people to quit.....and we should but the economy su-ks.... Can't wait to see how this BS is spun to the employees in department and company meetings.

I would say I’m surprised but after taking away RRP, the endless cuts & offshoring, and next to nothing raises, I’m not. It is more apparent by the day they don’t care about the US workforce. F them!

@a5 I think it’s hilarious you think Trump, one of the most corrupt presidents ever, is going to take in a corrupt insurance company.

Everyone get ready for your 1% raise at review time. Which will essentially be a wash now that they lowered our 401k which is one of the lowest moves a company can make.

This situation is absolutely astonishing and has taken me by surprise. A substantial pay cut is not a valid way to boost morale.

Makes me want to vomit. Their way of essentially giving everyone a 1% pay decrease. Absolutely disgusting way of informing people too with an email. Cant spin this sh-t for my team and I won't pretend to either. You sicken me UHC.
