Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel leaving California

With Intel closing and relocating all california research centers and the financial woes, is it more likely we’ll get a relocation stipend or severance pay?

Nah, India always has quality issues. Send it to Malaysia, Thailand, or Vietnam.

@gx+1jy7z8msk talent in Oregon is all the smart California's who did the math and began the exodus north to Oregon starting in the late '90.

There is not the talent churn in OR because the livin' is easier than CA. We are not stuck/lacking options. We figured it out a long time ago.

Yup, better than the 101 rat race wasting half your lifetime in a car.

Retrench back to Oregon where can pay 50% salary since people have no choice and need to eat. Talent is lower quality but cheaper.

@dc ... good opportunity to sell your overpriced CA real estate and move. You will probably be able to pay cash for your next house in a lower cost city and find a less stressful job at a company that doesn't throw 15-20% of their employees away once a year. In reality most companies don't do layoffs routinely, just high tech.

I heard something similar. Intel is planning to reduce its presence in Folsom. Also the employees at the headquarter will be heavily influenced. Especially software engineers will see over 50% cut. But Intel will still keep some high level employees (mostly managers) in Santa Clara. Folsom will be sold within a couple years after phased layoffs. They are already looking for a potential buyer.

I heard it from a good friend of mine (3rd level manager) who were managing managers of software teams and recently found a job at other tech company. He told me to find a job ASAP as this is coming to the CA employees. Unfortunately I started job search too late. CA job market is completely saturated now.

@OP "With Intel closing and relocating all california..." This is known as begging the question. You're assuming something to be true, while providing no evidence that it is. Please explain why you think this and where the information came from. Then we can consider the second part of your question.

Being headquartered in California is hardly the root of Intel's problems.
