Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

For prior Dell employees, where did you end up? I've been with Dell 15+ years in Services and it's not looking good.

It’s All about your network. The job listings are worthless. I was fortunate to land a job a month after the February WFR after 13 years due to relationship. If you’re over 50 it’s real tough out there. Pivot and reinvent yourself or become an entrepreneur. My two cents.

Just wondering, is there somebody at Dell whose sole job is to come through and zero out all posts? This is one of the more tame threads on this site and yet the HR bot down votes all
How f-ing pedantic is that??!!

Still looking after 4 months, market is bad. Underemployment is common. I also see places where they rejected me, took out the job. and then reposted the job after few weeks. Tells me that the candidate they selected resigned/ditched them. Some jobs just remain open.

Sadly, I did not have any luck with my network. My spouse still has a decent job, so things are not that dire with my severance money.

Good luck to all those affected in this WFR round

PS announcement already went out today. Doesn't mention layoffs, as I wouldn't expect it to, but did include telltale keywords such as efficiency, simplify, and modernize while describing a major realignment of teams. They say it's due to one VP leaving to pursue other opportunities, in reality this reorg has been in the works for some time, and a few direct IC managers left in recent months as a result of this consolidation plan. I fear we'll see more next week.

i was also in Services until Feb 10 last year. It took me 11 months to get my new spot.
I have a good friend still there and he tells me that morale is miserable as everyone is waiting for the expected really large RIF.
In my new roe, we have some fo the same problems we had at Dell, hitting sales targets, delivering projects for the budgeted hours and $, etc, but so far, no one here is worried about getting fired.

Govt. contractor after 24 years at Dell.
Govt jobs in IT aren't the same pace as jobs in other areas for Uncle Sam. Govt IT is loaded with former Dell, HP, IBM, Microsoft, etc. Old habits die hard.
So, combine a bunch of Type A's with fed bureaucracy, and you can see how it would be frustrating at times. Still loving it though.

Took a non IT job with good benefits. was laid off Feb of 2023 and need to wait 4 more years for Medicare / Pension ..... It was not easy however my home life is much better without the old stress and the traveling I did before.
Life is about slowing down some time.

@dbx+1tN4L3YA - I agree with you on both accounts.

@OP+1tN4L3YA - I've been in services over 10 years and we are going through a lot of changes but I still enjoy it. I'm sure you know some roles are be phased out with a goal of more people visiting customers. Continue to focus on your job but also learn skills that will help you if you get tapped on the shoulder or if you decide it's time to go. Take extra training other than what's in SalesU, there are funds for 3rd party training, take classes for skills that you see listed on Indeed, Monster, etc. get in good with your partners, they hire a lot of the top talent from Dell.

I did two tours of Dell...14 years and 8 years. Each experience was very different. I won't bore you with the details. in summary, when you see the word "Bain and Company", run away as fast as you can.

Channel partners are looking for good Services people whether it is technical or sales. Reach out to former employees, partners, and others in the industry if you want to remain in IT
