Exxon considers themselves to be even every time they send a paycheck. No loyalty. No consideration of the late nights or weekend work. No consideration of the weeks away from home traveling. Work your 8 hours a day and then log off. No one notices your hard work. No one will reward your extra effort. Stop caring so much.

@bt hate to tell you Mr retiree but you wouldn’t recognize the company. You would be disgusted if you saw what it has become
@db, your comment is laughable & shallow. Not the storyteller, but have to state the obvious. There’s an abundance of comments on this site indicating a high % of people have retired in place — and essentially have “boomer” mentality. Unlike the 55+ guy, these people are still getting a paycheck. “Retiring in place” effectively amounts to theft. I suspect you fall into that category.
I honestly think I could work twice as hard or half as hard and my ranking would remain the same or drop either way.
Cool story, boomer.
Don't you have an early bird special to get to? Leave this board for the active workforce.
I am retired. My first boss in mid-1970s on my first day at work said: "Exxon promotes people who get 12 hours of work done in 8 hours, but work 12 hours a day." PS there is no such thing a work-family balance because you are competing with people who willing work 70 or 80 hours a week. If you put in just 40 hours to have balance you will be at the bottom of the rank list by age 28, unless your ideas and work are so incredible that they stand out above everyone else AND you have new incredible ideas every year (no "halo effect" from past years). You CAN leave arrive at 7:30 and leave at 5:30, but you need to do 2 more hours of work after the kids are asleep...and add 4 hours from 7 to 11 on Sunday evening (that is 64 hours a week).
I’ve been working not caring so much for the last year or so. Finally starting to get the hang of it. Hopefully one of these rumors about mass US layoffs will come true and deliver me with the 90 day PIL to ice my IDGAF cake.
If not, I guess I’ll just have to quit, the old fashioned way.
I consider myself to be even when I can look back on a workday with no productive work accomplished.
I consider myself to be ahead if I've actively hindered the completion of productive work.
@OP and your point is?
Some come at 9 and leave at 3.
I tell my coworkers this. Your year end rank is not tied to hours worked.
