Getting PIP’d

Serious answers only

Getting pip’d in a day or two. What is that meeting like? What choices do I have, if any from HR. What is the whole process like?

@rs Will Cisco consider a mutual exit agreement plan to finish out the FY?

@r9 >>Can someone please share what the PIP process looks like? Is it a weekly PIP checkin or a 4 week PIP program guaranteed? And what does a package look like if on a PIP and not successful? Do they over a severance and cobra?

PIP is easy... Management decided to get rid of you, and you become the focus of their micro-management. They break you until you quit or at the end of four weeks, you're out the door. No severance. They are getting rid of you to save on severance.

Lately more folks are getting out this way. So take it easy and enjoy while it lasts.

Same experience here, called to meeting with manager and HR; that is two on one. Wish I had politely told them to send me the severance package paper work and hung up. Tell them you are not speaking to them without your lawyer with you on your side or unless the manager leaves the call. Businesses have so---y down to a science today and you need to be prepared to defend yourself.

@da you never did that! You don’t and never will have the testicular fortitude to stand up for yourself. Your manager bullied you, disgraced you in front of your family and took food out of kids mouth and you let it happen! All because you wanted to appear professional to someone who never cared about you or family. You humiliated yourself and your family! Good luck!

Take an exit package. Decline the PIP using your "grown up" voice. They've already decided to exit you so there is no need to grovel, you might as well take ownership of the process.

I was PIPd from another tech company that PIPd so many people it literally went out of business; at the final Zoom meeting it was me, my manager and an HR person. At the beginning of the meeting, my manager started some monologue...I just interrupted him, told him I understood why I was here and didn't care about anything he had to say, and actually asked him to just leave the meeting since we no longer had any reason to talk to each other. He actually sheepishly got up and left (he himself was PIPd within a month I was told). It felt good to fling some mud back at him, and realistically I only needed to speak to HR anyway. Own it!

Make sure you get standard 2 month severance, if there’s no other option.

They might make you sign a document stating that you accept the terms of the PIP.

Don’t sign and take leave of absence for two months due to emotional and mental strain. Look for a job and move on, if there’s no option.

Express PIP are happening that expedites PIP process. Basically these are “for cause”terminations that Cisco HR works with managers to protect law suits.

When your time comes, prepare to leave with any severance you can get.

HR and managers and leads in your team have documented everything against you.

Can you prove that rating is not justified or fair ? Were you given enough time or was it a aggressive schedule without proper training or unrealistic expectations?

Opinions differ from person to person. Did they follow the set of rules in review for everyone in your group? Did they single you out ?

We’re you hired for technology X and made to work on different area without any required tasks training?

Also email the HR and let them know about any injustice or bias towards you before you leave. They will keep it under your manager’s file as history.

If you have all the proof, save it and keep a record.

expect communication to come through very formally and it will already be run through with HR. pips at cisco are impossible tasks to accomplish. its just a sign that you need to move.
if you have reached pip, documented coaching has already been done where they tried to coach you but saw no improvement. i would ask for severance and be out the door. not worth to fight it regardless of how good you have been.
