Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Like a Breath of Fresh Air

It’s honestly refreshing to see the new company structure take shape. For the first time in a long while, there’s actual momentum - and you can feel it. Bottlenecks that used to stall progress for weeks (or months) are finally gone, and decisions are moving faster, with way more clarity.

Say what you want, but there's a real buzz about the future direction of the company. Teams are starting to collaborate instead of compete, and there’s a noticeable shift toward actually solving customer problems, not just checking boxes. It’s early days, but the energy is different. And for once, that feels like a very good thing.

That’s not “momentum”. That’s fear. 🙃

Another round coming in June/July. These are timed around the WARN law I think in MA which requires companies to announce layoffs over a certain number 60 days in advance. So the layoffs are always spaced just over 2+ months apart to avoid having to give this notice.

There was a quiet layoff at the very beginning of March, then this one beginning of May... I am so glad in that, within one business day of all the exiting staffs' departure, the company has transformed so drastically and positively.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

@OP+1jv33xnzj - Yes, there certainly is momentum - the downward spiral is happening so fast, I can barely remove the grimace from my face on "team" calls with my big happy work family. Bottlenecks that used to stall progress for weeks (or months) are finally gone? That's great to hear. No idea what you are even talking about since all I can see from my perspective is one rash decision after another but good for you, that you have that magical clarity on how well everything is going. Buzz about future direction? Oh, there's a buzz alright and it's about how shortsighted and futile the "direction" is. Teams are starting to collaborate instead of compete? I have no idea what teams you are referring to b/c unless you are talking about infighting amongst senior management levels, all I have ever experienced in the trenches with my work colleagues is collaboration and team work. No idea why you are here and annoying everyone with your fatuous Kool-Aid speak.

I will pray for you my friend - such a sad story to not have any direction or know enough to ask for it. May the lord guide you in your darkest hour to find the light!

OMG, Brooke or Charlotte are vying for a job with the clowns 🤡 in DC with that garbage. My day at work actually was pretty bad, and rinse and repeat tomorrow with no direction.

I think you missed the memo on what this site is for. The purpose is to share information about potential layoffs not to rub people’s noses in their own misfortune by telling them how much better it is now that they are all gone.

Cengage offers many internal communication channels that can be used to express your enthusiasm for leadership’s latest reorg agenda. To post it here is just… distasteful. And cruel.

Read the room.
