Thread regarding Optum layoffs

On a major project, interviewing externally. What to do when I receive an offer?

Hi all, I am still pretty early in my career (4 yrs of experience) but I am on some major projects within my team and I am the only person who knows how to do certain things or navigate certain systems. I asked for plan on a pay raise mid last year since I am on 6-8 projects at a time and deliver quality every time plus efficiency gains, and it’s been crickets whenever I follow up. They only gave me a 5/5 on the review and 3% raise with a sh---y bonus. I know I’m worth more than that.

I am interviewing for different roles externally that will pay me 30-40% more and have a good feeling that I will receive an offer soon. Only problem for me is that I am not sure what to do when it comes to giving my 2 weeks notice. I really enjoy my colleagues and don’t want to put them in a rough spot because we are already stretched thin as a team. I want to prep in advance but find little time to document everything I do in its entirety to help with the transition for my teammates.

How would you navigate this situation? I am definitely taking a new job offer externally and not staying here since it’s left a bad taste in my mouth.

You give them absolutely nothing. Do they give you any notice when they let you go to due to a RIF? No. A friend on my team, who was pretty high up the food chain left the same day as his resignation and I don't blame him at all.

@d7 One of my former teammates did this, and I don’t blame him at all.

I am a professional (doctor) and here’s what I would do if I got an offer such as you describe. I would NOT care about anything except you and your family. This company doesn’t care about you or yours. Do what is in the best interest of you and your family which sounds like leaving. As such, I’d get the ink to dry on the new employment offer then tell my manager I’m leaving in 2 weeks. Say you are willing to leave immediately but don’t want to leave team mates in a lurch if what you describe is the case.

Really, a no brainer. Congratulations!

Never feel bad about leaving is rule #1. They wouldn’t feel bad about canceling your project and letting you go if that meant the stock rises 1% so don’t feel bad. Give your two week notice, hand off the project, and leave.

Congrats! Give your 2 weeks notice after everything is confirmed with your new employer. Your team would understand as they most likely would make the same decisions. If they don’t, they’re not worth stressing over.

That is so funny. This sh---y company would not bat an eye for you and your worried about their projects. I wouldn’t tell anyone I was leaving and I certainly wouldn’t worry if their projects are successful.

Just give 2 weeks notice, do your work. 8 hrs, no more. if Manager wants KT, do KT. If they immediately cut you off, even better, free vacation as they will still pay you thru your notice period.

Remember your duty is to yourself and not you employer. Only put in what you feel is necessary to leave the postion. If you can help document that is great, but don't spend extra time above and beyond your normal work day. I don't think you will be fired for putting in your notice (unless they see you as an IT risk for some reason).

Give your teammate to heads up quietly. Tell them not to say a word two upper management. United health group in optima looking to lay anyone off to save a buck. You telling management You're giving your two weeks notice they will probably fire you on the spot. All they care about is less headcount in the US. Any jobs they can send offshore they will... Just look at your IT corporate help desk even the second level teams for desktop support I've been shifted to the Philippines. They don't care All they care about is their bottom line and paying less in benefits. Like someone else said make sure you have the job secured signed and ready to go before you say anything to your management

Never give an employer more than 2 weeks and don't give that notice until you have the offer in hand and have completed any pre-employment checks (dr-g/background). If you team was good to you, leave them with a knowledge transfer so they are not left in the dark.

@OP if you get the job with a huge pay increase, give your two weeks notice. You have to think what’s best for you. Obviously, they will not pay your worth and there’s a lot of instability with organization. When they need to reduce staff, they do NOT care your efficiency and skillset.

If you want to be nice for your coworkers, type up a document for them that explains everything and where you are with it. If you think you know who may end up with the work, give it to them on your last day if they don’t immediately turn your system off. Otherwise, I wouldn’t worry about it. Let leadership flounder around with it.

Be nice and answer any questions for two weeks.

Point out major obstacles if you want to do extra credit.

If your teammates are not completely terrible people they will understand and be happy that you are moving on to better things. I wouldnt worry too much leaving if I were you. Speaking from experience, you manager is who got themselves into this position and they wont regognize the value that you hold until you are gone.
