Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Cyber Resilience is the number 2 priority for Dell

yet, we continue to lay off folks in that area and not backfill their positions. Sounds like mixed signals to me. Sounds like the right hand does has no idea what the left hand is doing. I guess some management levels aren't getting the memos from the higher leadership team.

@ee Agreed. Our VP, CISO and even the big cheese JS, are so out of touch with what actually NEEDS to be done and what we NEED to succeed it's sad.

@cx I mean, that's more of a vendor issue than a dell issue...

@d7 As someone who's ACTUALLY in cyber, there is a small handful who live in India but of the 30 or so of us, 99% are US, Mexico and Ireland based.

Number 2 LOL? More like number 10... But the second any type of major breach happens? Guess who's fault it is?

Why? because Dell never gives us a fkn budget to IMPROVE our sh-t!

As someone who does work in Cyber, the biggest problem is that we NEVER have FKN "budget" year after year after year. It's pathetic. Sure, we are not a money making org and in reality, are on the lower end of priorities in terms of budgets but, we quite literally are the org that is keeping hackers/whoever from stealing money and you know, taking down Dell's websites and important things like that lol. If Dell.com goes down for even a minute, it's losing millions and millions of dollars. Probably more in the 10's of millions realistically. If dell.com is totally down, nobody can place orders. Nobody can purchase anything and it will absolutely make consumers/business's lose trust in Dell all together.

If someone were to hack their way into the internal network and take control of say, a VP's machine - or anybody with full admin rights for that matter - the amount of info that can be stolen and then sold to the highest bidder is immense.

But hey, let's not give cyber a budget to implement a relatively inexpensive OOB network in case sh-t hits the fan and we don't have a total blackout for 30-120 minutes while someone scrambles to get to a DC and fix sh-t.

All it takes is for an external firewall to go down, or the VPN to hit the dust, and bo-m. The ENTIRE company suddenly is left with no way to work. No way to contact clients. Any important sales call you were in? Disconnected. THen you can't reconnect.

But hey, let's not give them a budget to idk, secure the money/clients/PII that could possibly be stolen and then easily turn into a major lawsuit if leaked/stolen and make world wide news...

Maybe I'm bias here but, all it takes is for the VPN to eat sh-t and the company is no longer in existence until it is available again. Well, since Dell is global... What happens if the VPN eats sh-t and nobody is remotely close to a datacenter? A simple OOB connection would solve this problem as then we could connect to that, which would enable us to connect to those devices!

But hey! Cyber isn't a money making org so fu-k it, right?! Dell will deal with that if it comes up - which is literally HAS - and continue to do nothing.

I mean, idgaf because I'm just a peon that's been pushing for an OOB network for years and one day, it will be a big deal. Last time it happened, it took 3 hours to restore everything and I was the one who had to drive an hour to the DC to fix it all.

But yup, let's not give cyber money to improve anything.

data domains su-k and cyber recovery is a joke, Dell does nothing to advance and compete with Rubrik & others. it is only a matter of time before cyber is outsourced completely. oh and cybersense is too expensive and slow, it is no wonder there are no new logos here only old customers who have their hands tied because of money already spent !

Cyber is losing market share to other competitors. There's really no comparison. We're only managing to keep existing customers, we're not getting any new ones. It's only a matter of time before it's belly up.

I have noticed the way management in this ol’ boys club works, it’s impolite to “micromanage” and everyone gives the level below them a lot of leeway to run their own team. In reality it leads to lower and middle management steering resources towards their own agenda they think is best for their career and survival and not necessarily best for the company. There is such a ridiculous amount of duplication and internal backstabbing and competition. I have been told it’s not an accident and some top execs believe in survival of the fittest. Either way, when it comes to layoffs it’s heavily influenced by each level playing favorites, less by strategy.
