Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

What would an Elon Musk type leadership look like at Shell

If Shell was led by an Elon Musk type figure, what would he do in the first 6 months to 1 year?

I know engineers from Twitter who left. The only people who remained are H1B visa holders. So essentially you would see more offshoring and displacement of American jobs for cheaper labor.

Mental abuse is the most accurate term I’ve heard to explain what staff have been through with the last reorg. Worst ever. Hiring contractors while letting staff go is despicable. I saw so much BS from the highest level of IT leaders. Gross incompetence and unnecessarily cruel.

Is this really true? Hard to believe given all the commenters on this site.

“Is Shell oil a good company to work for?”

“The benefits and compensation are competitive, and the company ensures that employees feel valued through various rewards and recognition programs. Overall, Shell is a fantastic place to work, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a supportive, dynamic, and growth-oriented workplace.”

While I agree with what Musk is doing to downsize the government, I dont like the way he is doing it. It reminds me too much of what we have gone through the past 18 months/2 years, ie no empathy for the employee and just giving them lots of mixed messages. I know, for me, and seeing what a lot of others have written here, it has been mentally abusive what we have gone through at Shell and the way Shell has handled things. Its the worst experience I have had at Shell in my time here and I have been through quite a few reorganizations/layoffs since being here. It has changed the way I feel about working here and I think that came out in the annual employee review of the company and Im sure it will again this year too.

All these posters cheerleading for indiscriminate cuts, blaming lazy, unproductive staff, etc. would be stunned when they’re told to pack their things and leave.
“But, but…it’s those other people. I’M not the problem, they are. That’s not what I meant!”
Oh yes it was - and it’s happening.

@d6+1jmqtmzmd regular status reports, 2x2x2, etc. have been happening inside shell in various orgs for a long time. while initially useful, they became yet another bureaucratic industry... useful only for LC to post on yammer.

I like the idea of requiring employees e-mailing in what they achieved in recent weeks to be considered for continued employment.

for what it’s worth we aren’t guessing that shrinking the government will reduce inflation. we know this. the latest example just happened in argentina under milei.

it temporarily raised poverty and unemployment, then both started sharply reversing and then GDP skyrocketed within a few quarters

this is a company for harvesting energy and india has zero skills there and the US has the best at it. they would remain after an 80% cut, just without their middle manager layers.

it is our oddly large IT services and various research teams that would get the boot.

also for what it’s worth my career has turned into fixing broken work coming out of the India hub. they can’t seem to deliver anything unless the directions are 100% spelled out perfectly, zero ability to improvise.

not sure that brits or dutch are exactly known for moving fast compared to americans. fyi he doesn’t cut to save salary money he cuts to keep the top 20% and is willing to pay for it. im not sure you get it.

well sure but set that aside and realize the truth - you’re in fantasy land with that happening

democrats were never ever going to cut the government down to size, nor would any other republican. the fact is that we get this or we get nothing and default on our debt. so, i pick this. there isn’t another way it’s happening. we don’t have candidates who care and haven’t for ages. even now we settle for one who still doesn’t care but at least takes actions. i hope that makes sense.

While I know it hurts, he would do exactly what he is doing with federal employees, sack a bunch of over paid, unproductive Americans. There is a reason why he likes non American workers..they cost less and work 100 times harder without complaining about their 401k and the rubbish canteen. I know there will be a bunch of whining yanks but the truth hurts!

Wael should create a new company for GOM assets (like he has done for uk assets) and then sell them off along with US staff as we are too expensive compared to other places. He’ll want to sell gom assets while they are still worth something.

@b6+1jmqtmzmd... you meant to say fire 80% of the workforce outside the US. this would cause almost zero impact on productivity.

@@ae+1jmqtmzmd... While it is important to address government overspending as you noted, a wrecking-ball approach to cutting expenditures can damage essential services and undermine long-term economic stability. A balanced strategy that combines efficient spending, progressive taxation, and sound monetary management offers a more sustainable solution than simply reducing government size through indiscriminate cuts.... and hoping that fixes inflation.

i love what’s happening to the government

it’s too big. if you took the money of all the billionaires in the country, as many lefties advocate, it would fund the government for only about 9 months.

if you don’t like inflation, you should learn to like small government too. because they will print as much money as they need to keep up with their rampant overspending and that will come back to bite everyone. the real fix is to be smaller and spend more wisely, not to run the money printer harder.

Send the d-mb, slackers, and useless to Mars. That would be around 75% of the workforce.

All operations would move to Texas. Middle managers would be gone, leadership would be gone and most of us, even the ones that know where to drill, would be replaced by 19 year old computer prodigies. Elon would knock up a climate activist and little X would be running through OTM telling traders to shush their mouths.
