Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

This will be a hard post as I have to be vague.

So after the multi phased layoff, re-orgs, I have a MD 3 layers up that does not understand the tech they are over. No shocker there, but they are making decisions that more than hamper operations. I can’t be specific naturally but let’s just say they are out of their depth.

It’s like “so you need nails to build a house, are you sure you can’t cut back on the number of nails used? or let’s try using half the nails, how about that?. If you aren’t sure if the structure can remain standing, then just build half of the house.”

That’s as close to an example I can give without jeopardizing my employment but you can see how odd and reckless this is. Now imagine trying to explain the folly of using half of the nails and\or building only half of the house and they just don’t get it.

@d3 'HR has teams monitoring the EMP'...there ya go. Wherever there is HR, a sub-par, useless, clueless MD will manage to uncover an ally in HR through some other contact and HR, knowing that MD's are Citi are virtually untouchable except for maybe 1-2 in a 1000 cases, will go out of their to protect the MD's failing the exams.

It won't be beyond Citi HR to even share the answers and best responses with them....there is no low that Citi HR and Ethics won't stoop to, to save Citi MD and D's. I repeat - no low.

@a8 citi is actually doing this, there is an annual skills assessment that has been run to EMT-2/3 and HR has teams monitoring the EMP. The amount of EMT 2/3 that have skills gap stacks across their leadership teams under them is actually insane, its no wonder we were hit with a CO for having unskilled leadership.

I've also seen this- "sorry no more nails, let's build one room with whatever nails we have." And the next day they come charging with "why didn't we build the entire house, didnt I give you all the nails??"

I believe you. I know a Tech MD in Belfast who is good at politics and talking herself up, but when it comes to skills, she can't even write a line of code.

Your MD is not the only one around at Citi that's clueless. Most MD's are. Because most are hired as network hustlers. Fluff piece interviews, their nepo friends clear the deck behind the scenes for them and they come onboard. There are a few genuinely talented one's but by far, most MD's in support functions are clueless

I'll bet this - give support function MD's an annual skill test and watch how many of them will fail this year in and year out...but Citi doesn't have the b@lls to do that
