Silent LR?

I have a 1:1 meeting with my manager for tomorrow. Potentially silent LR?

@d3 The manager reading a script is not because they don't have empathy. HR tells them they have to read a script. Some things have to be said verbatim, or else. No employee is going to go against HR, not at a time like this.

@OP so have you been notified LR?

@d8

Manager received the chopping block list at noon!

This didn't happen. People doing notifications, as well as their back-up, were told who and when at least a week ago. I say at least for two reasons. First, notifier training emails went out a week ago. Second, in some orgs line managers participate in the name selection and have known who on their team for several weeks. I know that's not the case everywhere, but I do know orgs who involve first level managers.

@d8 No, it is the end of August to have list ready and notice will be sent in September.

@c5 LR is absolutely your own fault, everyone think so.

A day after earninings report before noon recently scheduled 1 on 1 is a bad thing. It is almost always a LR notification.

A post noon 1 on 1 is ambiguous.

A team meeting after noon is a good thing. It is usually for the layoff survivors. The team members not invited are the ones who were let go.

It's true, that's known beforehand who will be axed. Some heads are kept to be kicked out for more favorable ones.

Don’t expect empathy from manager . They will just read script . A plan on who needs to be axed is usually made few months ahead of the LR date

@c5

Did you have your meeting?

Cisco has done silent LR without needing WARN or public announcement.

Please share details of your meeting and packets.

Though Cisco wants employees to vanish silently, don’t make it their victory. LR is not your fault…

@OP

Really hope I am overthinking my 1:1 tomorrow but it's in God's (and Cisco's) hands now. Thinking positive thoughts for what it's worth for everyone reading these posts.

What do you mean “executed in such a way”? So they fire less than 50 ppl per location?

@am this is wrong. Warn act filings come when the RIF is executed. That’s why people get “2 months pay”.

You get notified , put on admin leave, same day as WARN filing.

If they eliminate more than 50 jobs at any location, they must file for that location.

Silent layoffs are silent - there’s no filing because they are executed in such a way as to avoid triggering the warn act. And they are not layoffs. It’s reduction in force. Layoffs potentially lead to being called back to work. RIFs don’t.

@aj is it effective immediately? Or you get 2 months?

It is very easy to check if companies run silent layoff, they have to file WARN notification to your state EDD and the public can know that very quickly.

Good luck to the chosen few tomorrow. I skipped my pop-up 1:1 so got notified via email my position had been eliminated-- which it really wasn't-- but regardless I didn't need to hear the words from my manager. Particularly after inquiring in every prior 1:1 for months regarding LR impacts to our team. But nothing personal, just corp America at its stealthy best. Soon when AI takes over we'll think of these as the good old days.

Also have one scheduled tomorrow
Not our usual 1:1 check in, maybe it’s nothing but don’t know, just have to wait and see.

@af May report, they said below, seems like a moving target.

(2) Reflects charges related to a restructuring plan announced on August 14, 2024. We expect this plan to be substantially completed by the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2026.

Still not done with FY24 LR

@ad Wow, thanks for your empathy—truly inspiring. How exactly are you so certain it’s fake? We’re already dealing with enough stress, but I guess making things worse is your speciality. Cisco should fire sh-t like you!

@a6 No its not regular one. It’s 1:1 meeting with no description. I asked manager and he said he is bound not to discuss it before the call and he is sorry so it’s definitely a LR
