Thoughts on the US Communication sent from SH last week? I pray there will be a positive change for US employees

@ag we have to have less employees because all employees fall under “admin cost” and that falls into the wrong part of the equation for MLR. So, when your MLR in all 3 segments is bursting well over 95%+ you are in serious trouble. There is 5% left of every dollar for admin, payroll, lights, real estate, profit…. We are about to go negative
@d2 actually Rex has looked at splitting up the holding company subs many times over the years- this is not a new thought.
VBC is going to die as it should . Fee for service was not the problem .
The problem is out of control costs .
@cs If we had real MBAs, we'd liquidate every Provider function and spin off ORX, the rest of Optum, and UHC as three separate companies with a big payday for shareholders. This could unlock something like $200b of value if the juicy parts of the org had liberated valuations.
The problem is we have pigheaded old farts that think they know better and that "conventional wisdom" about the 1970s "innovation" of HMOs is the future.
VBC is a stall tactic that allows traditional health insurance to stick around longer than it should. If we're honest, Single Payer with one national pool of lives and capitation is the logical conclusion of VBC. VBC is just the process, it doesn't end with health insurance companies, employers, and providers still negotiating over costs, coverage, and reimbursement. All the internal left to right flow charts stop just short of it, but that's the holy grail.
Real MBAs would see the slow death, risk of imminent collapse and recommend we take the money and run - cash out before the music stops and focus on being a PayVider or Provider Tech/Consulting firm.
Gutting this company for short-term profits and long-term losses is the "I got an MBA to appease my rich parents who paid for my degree" way of going about things.
Guess the type of person who is in leadership? None of this will ever change. It is only downhill and will only ever be downhill from here.
Probably not. UHG is outsourcing a lot of its functions. Call centers contracted Tellus, Taskus , etc. These call centers are Philippine based and have upward of over 70, 000 employees, each company larger than the next. Those are American jobs. So why is anyone loyal to UHG.
This company is contracted to a company in the Philippines that hires new nurses and they facilitate the RN to obtain their US license by flying them in to a state and registering them in that state with a US address. Once they pass the NCLEX they are shipped back to the Philippines but they practice as a US Nurse. The only state that this cannot happen is California cause u have to be in residence in the state and that what a strong nurses union does .
"We are an American company" (spits out coffee). Oh please. What a slap in the face to our members and every American employee who has been laid off and seen his/her job resurface overseas, all for the sake of cheap labor, poor quality and lining the overstuffed pockets of our executives. This company deserves its poor reputation. "Respect" doesn't mean gutting your company every few weeks to temporarily inflate your stock price. How's that been working lately? If UHG wants to start earning some real respect, then publicly declare itself an American First company (not in a "confidential" email). Ditch the foreign workers and operations, and bring them back to the U.S. - where they belong. Until then, stuff the false patriotism, and don't expect any loyalty from those you allegedly serve and those who work for you.
It honestly set a very uneasy tone for me to start my holiday weekend. I’m tired of these greedy corporations. I just want to log in, do my work, and get my paycheck without having the anxiety if I’m next or what sh---y changes are coming my way.
BOHICA
I don't think any of us will be here by the holiday, if we are we will put up a bigger work load from those being laid off
It clearly says “it will take some tough decisions”
@bx you hit the target could not said it better
Sounds ominous.
I think it was a warning. If you read the bottom is based employees and I don’t think they have to follow any sort of warning timeline. If we’re remote I don’t know. It just makes me uneasy. We go to work every day not knowing if we’re gonna get laid off.
We are an American Company.Unfortunately look at America it's a hot mess due to incompetent and selfish leadership. We are indeed an American company. The END IS NEAR
Less US-based employees, more hiring of people who message you "hello" and then go away for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Agreed. My 1st thoughts were that we were being forewarned of layoffs.
He basically said we are going to have less employees.
