Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Timeline to return?

Two members of my team, of the 4 that were kept, keep messaging me to help fix or document items I was holding together.

They have been loud about the fact they want me to return. To return as a contractor is that after the 6 month freeze?

@ Young Guy ...unless you are retired and collecting SS, why would you considering to return as a contractor?

you can come back as T&M contractor without having to wait 6 months if your dept has budget and passion to put it through now...But it is very doubtful at the moment. Most people I work come back as a contractor all the time after lay off/VSP..whatever..The skillset my department is unique and hard to find some with it. it's a win-win to both

I wouldn't go back unless I still hadn't found another job worth taking within that 6 months OR I was planning to retire anyway in a short time.

@d0 Not true. Hourly can break down as a larger salary, you just don't get the benefits.

I've seen less than 6 months as a contractor but it had to go to EVP for approval.

@OP You can come back - contractor or employee. It just has to be after 6 months. If as an employee, be careful as they may ask for partial repayment of the severance. If as a contractor, it won't be close to the pay you are getting now.

@OP Why would you want to crawl back to the girlfriend who broke up with you?

I've seen it happen a bunch of times fwiw - yes I got the axe this round. Unique, specialized talent got axed, then a few months later they mysteriously reappear as a contractor. Well, good for them.

If you want to come back after six months. I don't see why not.

I guess it depends on how bad you need the funds in six months...

However, I wouldn't wait around on the hope it could happen as a lot can happen in meantime.
