Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

When is the brunt of it going to happen?

Is it going to be this coming week?

My favorite is when pk’s team spent 100k on Adrienne bailon for wal mart talk shop live, for it to get 80k views till this day, and the elabrotate sets they build. Once again no business sense. All smoke and mirrors

@nc yes LF from Disney who heads up Skydance cp now. Pk is a c suite, no reason to have someone of that level running this division (12th place in licensing behind every studio because clearly she doesn’t know what she’s doing or her team)

They haven’t announced anything about her. Maybe firing her reports did save her. Anyway what does this new person know about cp and lbe? Sounds like she’s in charge of a larger world and could just have pk report to her. Otherwise who would take over/do they have anyone?

@jx word on street she gutted her la team to try to save her and try to keep the operation in nyc. Well that plan backfired as nyc office is closing down from what I’m reading here.

She echoed Scott Galloway at every turn, sprinkling in phrases like “DEFINITIONAL deal,” which her staff dutifully mimicked without an original thought of their own. She burned through company funds as if it were an open buffet, jetting off to exotic locales under the guise of “speaking engagements.” And despite the team’s glaring incompetence, she kept them on payroll until December (one in particular that ill call momo challenge) — proof less of loyalty than of her inability (or unwillingness) to distinguish genuine talent from mere sycophancy.

Pk was all glam no substance. Anything semi smart she said was just repeating something she heard from someone else. Thought she could hire useless coaches to teach people how to do their jobs because she couldn’t just hire smart people over her cronies. Not a creative or a business person. Just good at hyping things up like McCarthys crew. Definitely a pattern under bakish. Promote the ones who say the ship ain’t sinking rather than the ones who can plug the holes.

Pk was over-promoted. Should’ve just been a cmo type. Over promoted her buddies. If she brought in smart people to overcome her weakness she would be looked at differently. Of course she got away with it for a long time so no surprise.

@j6 so far she just gave up the stuff the intl guy is taking over/streaming or something. Not sure whether she is staying to keep her other stuff. Someone on another thread said she’s friends with this mall person, so who knows.

Anyone in HR (or anywhere else) have any clue what they are going to do with the Consumer Products & Experiences Group?

@f9 They are still debating how to handle remote workers but yes back to office will be a thing. As silly as that is and will be implemented in Jan.

@bc Appreciate your post! I heard a rumor that all remote workers will be let go (remote meaning they live in a state/region where it’s not possible to commute to a corporate office). Any truth to this? If so, do we think any exceptions will be made? Have your heard how layoffs will affect sales? Assuming every department in the company will be impacted.

@e2 It could be they received different info or maybe there’s more than one date? I appreciate the posts from the HR people. I happen to think the person who said oct 28th could be correct because it’s a Tuesday following premiere week and that falls in line with the way the company’s done stuff in the past. Not to mention, I think that person also may be the one who stated that the cuts would be more like 3k in a previous post and that was before the articles came out. If we see a back to office email or announcement in sept then we know for sure. Either way, I appreciate any insight we can get.

Hmm ok so 2 different hr persons w different dates. Should we trust anything we read here? I can just add another post saying the date is 10/15 and list a bunch of functions to be let go, but I’m not an as;

@c5 It's confusing, as I am also in HR and we are working towards an October 28th date. I assume we will know more soon.

@c5 Warn notice depends on workers work site. It has nothing to do with HQ address .

great info and much appreciated
thought it would be october before earnings report... so this gives some clarity and planning as it relates to severance or warn money
one question- have heard that they will say some P SD is a california incorporated and headquartered company now the new warn plan is all CA and we only get 60 days - any truth to that that anyone has heard ?

@BC THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! You have no idea how much that information helps everyone. All everyone is looking for is some transparency into the process. We know you don't have all the answers but truly thank you for your insights.

@bc thank you so much for this!!! Will communications be happening throughout so we can gain some semblance of an idea? It seems insane to wait on edge until November. Also, is there truth to the 5 days in office rumor?

@be it will happen in International too but we know, international takes longer.
Just look at the June layoffs, they are still currently happening.
People and teams in international will be identified.

@bc thank you. Is it fair to say that the 2-3k cuts are going to be concentrated in some specific areas like linear cable? Or is mgmt looking to spread the pain; not sure if you are allowed to share more

I work in HR, and I'm going to tell you what I know. The layoffs will happen around November 11. That is the date we are working towards. That doesn't mean it won't change! It is the date we have been given for now and all depends on legal checks etc.

FYI to confirm - we have been told there are many changes likely to happen, but we are planning for that week. Not necessarily that date!

There is a possibility I will be laid off too! So I'm only sharing what I know now. So, yeah, HR is affected too!

This is what I know as of late last week. The $2billiion is not just staff!! It is contracts too!! Every business area will be affected. However, some teams might only get a couple of layoffs, while others will be eliminated. I have been told that some areas I look after will be eliminated. Someone asked what that meant, and the reply was that 'teams, units and functions will be shut down' and that 'the new management doesn't see the need for some functions and will close them down to save money'. They also mentioned that the cable channel business will 'be streamlined' to save money.

I will update when I know more and not give away who I am. Thanks

End of October. Everyone is safe till then. Next big topic here will be the BS back to office email that will go out in September. I wish David was mature enough to know how bad most of the new management he has brought in is.

I thought it would last until November, but most would be done before.

@OP are you serious? The article came out saying by November and that managers have to give their ki-l lists and there’s that poster on here that says it all has to go through legal review. What on earth makes you think it’s this week?
