Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Where is the 18A?

Where are the products? Who are the customers? Let's see something.

The only customers that have been announced for 18A are Intel's. Is Intel keeping the other whales private (maybe?) Are there no customers other than Intel itself (probably?) . THink about it, if INtel had customers for 18A and those customers had confidence with Intel's 18A they would be shouting it from the rooftops and checking it off as a win for Intel. They are not, so to me that means 1)Intel is its only customer for its 18A process 2)Other whales are under both way NDAs because the process and yields just aren't there yet and no one wants egg on their face. You pick the poison - I think its #2.

Meanwhile TSMC is on 2A, lower is better in this case.

Customers are not going to announce 18A products till they are all set to launch the product. This is to derisk scenario where there are unforeseen issues/delays on 18A and TSMC penalizes them for working with Intel. All indications are that there will be couple of customer announcements by end of the year. TSMC is up for major challenge from 18A. Intel may be looking at a very merry Christmas.

I bet 18A yield is <5%. None of the products in the market will work.

Too bad they can't sell the colorful names. I miss the rivers, though WMT did turn out to be Turkey Creek.

Panther lake is the product.
Also Clearwater forest.
Panther Lake is scheduled to launch late this year. CWF next year.

No whales though.
Intel volume alone is not enough to recover costs. Notice that Intel is dramatically cutting back on capex and mothballing Ohio fabs.
