Thread regarding 3M layoffs

RTO is turning into a very expensive affair

It feels like I'm paying for the privilege of having a job.

Wondering why he came out from earlier retirement? And how does he plan to spend his $20,000,000 annual comp from 3M?

Sometimes I wonder if Bill Brown emerged from somewhere hotter (and more fiery) than Florida… I wish he would just take his pitchfork and go back into retirement.

@1db IT is full of mindless yes-men. There's no chance that anyone in that org isn't in 4 days a week.

See if you can jump over to IT-security. I don't think anyone on their leadership team lives anywhere nearby and they commute into the office once a month on the company dime.

@rb yes there was a huge raise. You no longer had any commuting expenses or eating out expenses, and you didn't have to use any of your own, personal time for commuting. No one with an actual, physical, technical job received such benefits.

@hs to be clear, there was certainly no “huge raise” for any regular corporate employees during Covid. whoever told you that is trying to give you more reasons to hate St. Paul than it seems you already do

@n1 but then Bill realized we could hire from other countries for less than what Americans cost.

So how to get rid of the Americans? If we fire them , that looks bad and we need to pay severance. So just make things worse and worse until they quit voluntarily.

Genius!

@k9 alot of layoffs occurred after Covid and their replacements were hired as remote - WYW.

I left 2 months ago for a pay decrease and fully remote. Totally worth it.

Did you go to the office before Covid?

The food is awful and ridiculously expensive. Go off site if you want to eat something.

@cw $100 a month? Big deal
You pencil pushers all got a huge raise during covid plus an internet allowance. You know what the technical employees got? Nothing. In fact they threatened to fire us if we tried to get that same internet allowance

Bless your hearts! People are being laid off by the hundreds if not thousands globally. Plants are closing for good. You have the gall to come to this forum and complain about having a job.
You two are one of three things. Children, trolls, or stupid.

I did the math; it costs me about $5 per day to come into the office, just to put gas in my car.

That's more than $100 per month.

Now add in clothing, lunches in the overpriced cafeteria, the time wasted sitting in your car driving to and from the office, and the sick days caused by being forced into the office alongside sick people because "collaboration" is more important than reality.
