Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

We are COOKED if TSMC takes over Intel

Rumored has it that Taiwan has been negotiating with the US about potential tariff reduction from current 20% to 10%.

Trump has two conditions: one is that TSMC acquire a 49% stake in Intel, and the other is that it invests an additional $400 billion.

If this comes true, it'll be a bloodbath for Intel.

LBT was trying to get IFS ready for a spin off, which would have resulted in more lost jobs but far better than the firesale that D.C. appears to be pushing for.

If LBT is pushed out then the gov't will push the company through bankruptcy, so the assets can be sold to favored companies, and all liabilities can be wiped out.

That means no more retiree benefits, like SERMA or IRMP. Debt is absolved and all legal claims wiped out. Shareholders would be wiped out and bondholders would get some portion of their principal returned.

Likely 30,000 or so employees would be terminated, with nothing but unemployment. Not sure if they would even get Cobra from a bankruptcy proceeding.

TSMC would get TD and the newer fabs, UMC, GF, and other smaller foundries would get the older fabs. ProdCo would be dismantled and sold.

Trolls will troll but this is a real thing that is being set up to happen right now.

@OP Wake up bro, you were cooked long back. last year's layoffs should have been enough for you to see the reality of the situation. Hopefully now you will get your head out of the sand.

@cr what an id--tic thing to say

@ct IFS will be spun off, and likely only the EUV fabs.

Coinvestment will happen, but it would be nice to have TSMC there to rip TD to shreds.

If not TSMC then it would be private equity and maybe some of the eventual customers, who would see it as a way to guarantee supply priority.

It is clear from the way LBT has been targeting IFS that much more reductions are to come, and that includes shedding older fabs and entire fab sites.

In typical fashion, TSMC will now come out and deny knowing anything about any such negotiations and probably throw dirt at Intel as well.

Then the rumor will be proved to be true, as usual.

While it’s highly unlikely to happen I’d love for TSMC to take a 49% share of a fab spinoff. Stock would shoot up and prodco would lose the boat anchor.

I don't believe OP realizes he is cooked regardless.

Trump green-lit the Nippon Steel acquisition of US Steel after it was rejected by Biden and even Trump himself..

Whether the OP is "hoax-ing" or not, I won't be surprised if the OP's assertion comes true within the next 12 months..

Odd it might seem but the only entity that can save Intel is - China! The moment chinese bo-b lands on Taiwan, Intel stock skyrockets.

If the federal govt. requires companies to pay more for H1Bs, how does that affect TSMC? They may have production on U.S. soil, but do they actually employ very many U.S. citizens?

@OP you guys still think we are not done ? Its over man. Done. Finito. TSMC needs nothing from Intel

TSMC would rather control their own destiny and just invest the dollars in their own fabs.

They don’t need Intel and all the headaches that would bring.

Rumors are that they are bringing leading edge N2 and beyond to Arizona.
