Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Laid off last year

Best thing that happened to me. Only when you get into another company, you realize how bad it was in QCOM. I had enough wits about me to start looking for another job while still in Q, and had it lined up before layoff. Now I work for better pay in a more pleasant and collaborative environment, and I’m much happier than before. Leave, guys!

I never believed these posts when I was at Q, but almost one year after the layoffs I can vouch with certainty that the culture at Q is extremely toxic.
The culture especially in the modem SW and Test teams is ripe with cultural/language/caste bias. The labs feel like a sweat shop at Q with little or no respect of the leaders. It’s a spreadsheet and PPT nation where the real competition is how to do better than QIPL. The FRs are given to folks not because of their capability to drive but based on how aligned they are with the D or SrD.
There are very few leads I would have chosen to work for who are technically sound and can drive well. The rest of the principal and above won’t be able to find a job out in the open market today.

What will happen to Q when Apple, Samsung, Mediatek etc... don't need Q modem anymore?

Yes. Being laidoff is best thing that ever happened to me. Wasted too many years of my career there which I regret. For folks in Qcomm being excited about the share price…wait until the AI bubble bursts and its gonna happen soon. Intel/Nvidia and many others joining ARM/NPU race next year. Not sure how long Qcom can drag the Modem/5g/6g train since Modems are also commodified and stiff competition coming its way from Apple/Samsung/Mediatek and many others.

Sorry to hear you're finding it difficult to find a job. I too was nixed in Dec '23. I took about 5 months to regroup (the extent of my severance pay) and began to seek a new job. Found one in the same line of work in a small company. I'm very much looking forward to working in a non toxic environment. Keep looking, you will find a new home. Good luck

Qualcomm is like a cult. Until you get out you don't know how bad it was.

QCOM is the worst run company in semiconductors and that’s saying a lot.

Glad I left that sh!thole when I did.

I have the exact same feeling. I am so lucky to leave QCOM without wasting too much of my time. At the same time I wish I had joined another company instead of QCOM. In that case there would be no waste of my career. It was a complete career mistake.

It doesn't matter how many days are designated for RTO. I know someone who routinely arrived after 9:30 AM and left before lunch without anyone questioning her. Despite this, she refused to provide me with the materials I needed and instead blamed me for not trying hard enough. When I attempted to speak with her during her brief time in the office, I found her watching YouTube videos at her desk. By the end of the year, she claimed she hadn't taken any vacation days and consequently took a long vacation. This happened at QCA.

@2uzf+1tjVxOED Seven years ago, my manager said, "Don't envy NVDA's price; QCOM will do well again. Everything has cycles." Since then, I experienced bullying, harassment, unfair treatment, and cover-ups by management and HR. I'm glad I no longer work at QCOM, just like OP. While it's true that everything has cycles, I doubt I could have lasted there until QCOM's stock rose again. The limited number of shares I received hardly justified the poor treatment I endured.
