Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

What then is the anticipated number this year?

Today, we have today told staff across bp that the proposed changes that have been announced to date are expected to impact around 4700 bp roles - these account for much of the anticipated reduction this year,” BP said in a statement.

I don't see them announcing what work will be stopped, just people being axed. Their answer for everything is TSI. They introduce all these tools that don't integrate between themselves so we still have to do the useless KPI metrics reporting manually. We have been using PowerBi for years and when you try to automate pulling simple metrics there are errors and you still need someone the verify the data. Don't get me started on the useless IRIS. Now if we have IT problem we have to put in a SNOW ticket that goes to India. I get a response back that the ticket was completed but it wasn't. Then you have to send a bad survey response to get any attention. These are little problems that supposed to make our lives easier but it su-ks up your time where we should be focused on doing real work.

Here we go yet again. Wonder how long afterward until we’re hiring younger, cheaper staff. Afterall, we’re just widgets to the executive team.

@ad+1jhrjn3g2. "...particularly the last 5 years with the Loon". He was the kiss of death for this company. He was a Lord Browne mistake (as was Hayward) whose bad judgment will haunt us for years.

Where does the commenter below work that actually has heat?!?

Certainly not WL1. That place is colder than MA’s heart in December.

Dear @cq+1jhrjn3g2 - out of curiosity, where did you move? Also oil? or completely different sector of economy?

I left bp, and I really don't miss these constant rounds of cuts. I really feel for the employees but now being on the outside I can look back and see what a mess the place is. One big thing is too many changes, nothing gets done properly.

I honestly cannot stand these pathological liars. A year ago they were, both Murray an Emma, repeatedly asked if any major reorg is coming. No no, just small adjustment here and there, nothing major. Now they are cutting thousands and changing the structure completely, with Emma saying that "our competitors have been doing this for the last 20 years and we need to catch up".

Is it money that allows them to live with themselves after so many lies?

Now the parking garage will be full. People that weren't showing up at the office will now make a presence. When I roll in around noon, I have to park in the North garage and hike over. Enjoy the free covered parking, free coffee, free fruit, free flavored water, free heat and free A/C, free toilet paper while it lasts.

I can confirm that they are NOT offering an EOI this time.

Genuinely why are you staying. When you look at the pattern over the last 10years it's the same. We sc--wed up the strategy we need to cut staff. It's not a company to tie your yourself to it's mast. It should be a stepping stone to a job elsewhere.

Other companies have layoffs as it's part of the cycle but I genuinely believe that it would be better than here.

Heard there was no EoI this time which is a shame. The last 5 years should be a case study in how to destroy value.

I'd recommend Flying Blind by Peter Robison on Boeing as a parallel as to what is going to happen to us...

If you complain about leadership and stay then you can't complain as you've accepted it...

As an early retiree (8.5 years), I feel awful for the staff. I've been through so many of these announcements from my years with BP Amoco. It's extremely distracting. But, I have to say that I've anticipated this announcement when BP issued a warning about not meeting financial targets by 4Q. I wish everyone the best.

Some work will go to “hubs” in India and elsewhere, other work will be shifted to those who keep their jobs, and very little work will be stopped.

The ambiguity makes everyone here at bp feel like there will constantly be the shadow of layoffs across our path for years to come. I assume MA meant to give clarity and instead created more fear and anxiety. Who is writing these communications for him?
