@a1 First of all, OP should just go buy another Red Stapler and get over PG already.
Secondly, PG did have a plan but it was completely delulu, and mismanaged from the start.
Pat and the Board failed to recognize that it wasn't about building even more excess capacity, but that demand for x86 had long since started to slide.
Foundry should have already been spun off, consisting or just the fabs set to startup 18A, with EVERYTHING ELSE being sold to another foundry.
As far as foundry, customers TOLD them that they would only use IFS if it were an independent company. Intel could be an investor but not control the foundry.
I have no hate for Pat and see him as just another out of touch manager from the monopoly days, no better or worse than PSO or even BK, or the Board itself.
Reality is now setting in fast and foundry is going to be broken up into pieces and sold then spun off.
Should have been done at least 10 years ago, and just look at the damage which resulted.
