Schwab layoffs begin

First of many layoffs came down today as nearly the entire Senior Operating Committee (SOC) has been axed.

One unified happy family with segregated leadership meetings.

It's a shame you've removed your original condescending comments, but I digress.

Thank you for Schwabsplaining this to us, wise one. I forsee you fitting in perfectly over there.

Here is crystal clarity. TD was acquired by Schwab, not the other way around.

TD has been acquired by Schwab. This is not the case of co-equal branches, don't be disillusioned. TD staff will be cherry picked to stay in Schwab. That is the reality. TD are Schwab employees, for as long that lasts for some.

DH made it crystal clear in his all hands we are still TDA employees. Not Charles Schwab.

Can we please move this discussion thread over to the Schwab Layoffs section now that we are officially one since LD1 on 10/6. I say again, lets merge discussions into a single section under the Schwab banner.

No additional layoffs thus far. Expect managing directors to be next as Schwab begins finding synergies from the top down and combines the organization charts.

And Java 17 will be a candidate for scientific programming, replacing Fortran finally. Fortran is only alive because of it ability to seamlessly work with imaginary numbers. You know, the "i" component. It was great for performing electrical engineering computations, not to mention physics. And it will have LTS EOL of 2050.

But Java 9 doesn't even have LTS. Why is it a surprise that Schwab has not adopted Java 9? Java 11 maybe, as it's LTS EOL is 2026 at least, but even then that does not compare to Java 8 with a LTS EOL of 2030. Schwab is simply holding out for Java 17. Then we're talking. Duck typing. Dynamic typing. Closures. No, real closures, not that lambda expression wanna be. Full functional programming paradigm that would make put the last nail in the coffin for LISP. And full static typing is still available.

We do realize that Java 9 does not have LTS. And Java 11, though more viable in that respect, has a shorter LTS EOL than Java 8; 2026 vs 2030 if I recall correctly.

What strange architectural patterns are you referring to?

I can understand not supporting 9. LTS is an issue. 11 has a shorter LTS EOL compared to 8. What kind of architecture absurdities are you referring to?

very disappointing to hear about the buildpacks and architecture. eager to see more about that. Many of my us are worried about landing a gig at the new schwab. after post @3cmw+17jZsoIP perhaps we should be hoping for severance.

Our CIO is out. We certainly don't need two CIOs when Schwab has a CIO and a CTO.

We really are toast. Schwab is still using Java 8 build packs on PCF. They don't even support Java 9 or 11. You should see some of the strange architecture principles and patterns they have established.

I would think that the senior leadership that was let go on Day 1 had to know or at least REALLY suspect it. Did we need two SVPs for the same role? No. And of course Schwab kept their own. Goes to show that the first to go are the ones at the top.

We, Schwab... well we're all Schwab now since 10/6, but I digress. Has a SOC. But it's the security monitoring team down in Phoenix operating out of our on-premises datacenter.
