Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Regretting leaving my old job

I moved to EM a few months ago due to higher pay, but I’ve been feeling out of place ever since. My old job had better work-life balance among many other things, and now I wonder if I should have stayed. Learning about constant PIPs and layoffs has sent my stress levels skyrocketing. A bit late, but I realize now that no amount of money is worth the peace I've lost.

Welcome to the show. You are not alone (queue the General Zod dialogue from Superman).

I came in just before COVID and honestly, just holding out for a low rating so I can take the paid leave. This place is a drowning ship so I'll just take my money and run. No need to give more than necessary. Clearly the Execs have shown they don't need most employees.

I did the same thing. I left after being a contractor for 5 years and went to a Saudi company. It was wonderful there no pips and job security. The managers said we want you to grow old and retire here. I was asked if I would ever go back to exxon and i said he'll no. Well everyone has their price and exxon met mine. I came back after ten years away. Every thing was different and worse. All of my old co workers have now retired and I am left with young backstabbers. I have luckily made it to retirement eligible after 16 years back. I contact my old Saudi co workers and they are treated well and there have been no pips or layoffs. Some of my old Saudi friends are in their 70s and still working. My old company values the experience and workers they have.

Similar experience for me, I joined about 6 years ago. The XOM brand looks so shiny on the outside. I remember being warned by a friend prior to joining, but I never listened due to overexcited about joining a shiny brand company.

Sorry OP but you're f-c ked and your career has taken a big hit. Better not to mention Exxon. Just say you were unemployed. It sounds better.

No, they will not. They will also deliberately not mention that XOM does not give bonuses unless you specifically ask.

Sorry about your situation. You should have checked this site before applying... This should be part of due diligence for every applicant
To put a positive spin, you can leverage your current high XOM base salary for negotiating the comp of next job. Good luck!

I'm so sorry. Stay for a couple of years to have a nice entry on your resume & then move on.

HR should mention annual PIP layoffs and offshoring strategy during interviews with prospective employees.
