Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

The fear of constant layoffs needs to stop

How can a company genuinely expect employees to be happy, productive, or incintivised to do a good job when nobody feels safe from having their job taken away at a moments notice? Or when promotions are MIA and raises are comical?

@cm nothing to do with AI. It’s greed. The biggest question is why work so hard to put more money in our executives pockets and not share it with the people who get the work done?

We have to deal with this. Layoffs across the board. It is not just in the Dell type industries. It is happening everywhere. Some of the AI use cases to make employees more efficient is just code for layoff. I've scaled back any new purchases since the layoffs started and really started to save as much as I can. I have friends that have been out of work anywhere from several months to years.

Layoffs cycles now exist at every major OEM company. Dell, Cisco, HPE, Broadcom, NetApp, etc. If you go read their subs in this site you will see the same thing you see under Dell. Generally, twice a year they run layoffs as a way to purge a percentage of their workforce. I assume it is about boosting the stocks at specific times but who knows.

@ac AI is in Europe too causing the same unemployment. You're not escaping it by moving to another country. I agree the unemployment numbers have to be skewed based on all the tech layoffs and there are more things that could be done to reverse it. Kids today should learn a trade and bag college all together.

@OP As AI gets fed more data on your specific job, fear of layoffs is all we humans will have left. If it's tough for us right now, can you imagine how difficult it will be for our kids to find a job and keep a steady job.
AI is not helping produce as many jobs as it's taking away. And now the worst part of it that we have a president who will continuously release FAKE economic data such as the number of job openings, the number of people who found jobs, the low amount of unemployment rate, etc. to drive the investment markets higher for his 1% buddy friends and family members. And stimulus checks only help pay the months bills if that while driving US national debt higher than $38 Trillion dollars.
More people will be leaving USA to become European citizens.

OP here again...

Forgot to mention the "project." - I mean it's no wonder it got pushed back a quarter. Why work your ath off for something that is probably going to fail anyways lol... and have no incentive to "get it done?" Insperity points aren't gonna fkn cut it. Maybe, just maybe if there was REAL incentive then it would have been ready next month but, as I said... why put extra effort and work into something when you could be laid off tomorrow?
