Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

If layoffs... No visas

We need a law that protects US Jobs, if a company has had layoffs in the last 3 years they can’t apply for new visas for employees or take jobs oversees.

@k1 There is such rule already with the department of labor. They cannot hire H1Bs, make green cards or do some visa extensions. However, this is only applicable for 6 months.

@n5 that’s the point isn’t it. America isn’t where the company should be

@kj that's true about any companies. You can hire local force or gtfo.

Why? America isn’t even where Qualcomm makes most of its money.

If anything there is too many jobs in US. Qualcomm should relocate to Singapore or Europe.

@cm makes absolute sense! If you keep doing layoffs and let go of the US people. Then shouldn't be allowed to have H1B visa quota to import cheap labor from india.

That does not make sense at all.

It's like saying if you eat an apple you are not allowed to wear shoes.

Maybe a tariff on hiring overseas? If you want cheap labor, you will need to pay a premium. 20% the previous year’s gross per 2% of work force?
