Real Leaders Needed

GE Aviation announced today that additional measures were needed that will impact our US salaried and hourly workforces. This comes one week after announcing the intended layoff of 10% of the US workforce and the immediate release of most contractors. In my years with GE, I have worried and lost sleep over more RIFs than I care to remember.

As our "leaders" now tell us how they struggle to make the difficult decisions, I realize how that is just not true. GE has a long history of dumping employees at the first sign of trouble. If those that label themselves as "leaders" want to deal with hard decisions, then they should try a different approach. They should seek solutions that retain employees and ensure that GE Aviation employees can keep health insurance and food on the table when it is needed most. Lay-offs under these conditions should be criminal.

I know I would be willing to take a pay cut during this time to ensure that I remain employed and I am willing to bet that most employees would do the same to prevent others from being laid-off right now. Right now, we really do not need "leaders" regurgitating the same rhetoric as they always do, making the same choices they always have. We need real leaders that are able to see us through the crisis by being innovative and compassionate.

Your pay is 30 percent higher than the average and you probably don't even have a clue what your task is on a daily basis. Sitting in meetings being a talking head. Do you ever wonder who actually does anything at all?
Hahah I remember the Schenectady thing. Oh, they have the machines but are not certified. What a clown show, all while they sourced shops in India behind the scenes to do the work.

@bhrc+14gCzfKe you're a CHUMP!! The virus was clearly in this country before we even first heard about it in late December. Just ask your neighbors and coworkers! You'll find several people who felt like they had the worst flu of their lives but tested negative for the flu! To show how stupid your theory is, Schenectady overwhelmingly voted for the last schmuck, look at what it did for us! All this Aviation work was supposed to be coming to Schenectady because there was just sooo much of it! What a line of garbage that put a bunch of simpletons into a false sense of security. None of your leadership is here to protect YOU or ME!! Get off your high horse you Pawn!!!

Our current president is your leader, by constitution too. Congratulations Ohio for overwhelmingly voting for the man who declared the virus to be a democrats hoax and delayed the response action for at least a month. And yeah GE Aviation mostly voted for him, I know that for a fact so now deal with the consequences.

Union leaders and all of their members for decades on top of decades have been demanding as much of everything possible for as little from them as possible. GE is top heavy with hourly and salary employees that just get paid to have a thumb up their butts. This is the risk you run and the price you will pay to get paid over $40 an hour or $100k a year on salary to do a job that nation wide pays an average of $25 an hour or $65k a year on salary. Where does everybody think the extra money comes from to cover the bloated paychecks? Bailouts? It comes from selling the products and services that most everybody at GE get as far away from being involved with as possible. So how does anything get done when everybody is trying not to do any of it? You can only sell your goods and services for as long as somebody is willing to pay for them. I'm sure aircraft sales will go through the roof when this is over because it was the biggest contributor to spreading the virus! I blame the leadership for hoping that if they ignore the problem just a little longer, it'll fix itself and go away. They need to clean house from the top down and make it real clear that it's do or die time! Get with the program or get crushed. It won't happen because the leadership also knows that "sacrifice" is something that everybody thinks should be done by everyone, but themselves. Compassion is what has been taken advantage of for far too long. We've been compassioned to the point where we think it's okay to just sit in a corner s—ing our thumb while getting a pat on our head and being told "It'll be okay" is considered a full day of work. The only ones who will make it through this are the ones tough enough to survive. If you don't make it, do I need to spell out what it says about you? The only good things to come from all of this is that everyone is being exposed for who they really are. Kinda hard to be tough during tough times when all you've ever done is talk tough during easy times.
