Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Does everyone in here work for fkn sales, or what?

Seems like 99% of the posts are always sales related and/or ISG/CSG related... Does anybody else here NOT work for either of those BU's lol?

Anybody in SRO maybe?

@c1 That is quite literally the nature of being in sales though... For ANY company in ANY industry... You have quotas to meet. THAT IS HOW SALES WORKS!

Nobody forced you to work a commission based job when you could have just found a job that pays a higher base salary with no commission. No different than a fkn waiter being paid 2.13/hour and complaining about tips lol. Gotta work hard for that extra money because it's not guaranteed!

I've been an ISR before and the only sales folks who truly have to have a skill - the skill in convincing and closing a deal - are the outside sales reps who ACTUALLY pull in business. ISR's only job is keeping those customers happy by giving them the best prices your manager will allow. You aren't "selling" sh-t though lol. At most you might upsell some stuff but that's about the extent of "sales" you are doing...

@w4
We've always reached out to the Sales LnD, since being in sales they were our only interface.
The ones ghosting us were exactly them. And the times they didn't ghost us, they literally told us: "cool, please write down a learning plan of what you want, we'll find out someone to deliver it".
I'm the one who acknowledges not knowing (enough) the subject and they ask ME to write down the learning plan. It's like going to school and have the teachers asking the kids to bring a detailed breakdown of what they want to learn, for each subject.

@cq LnD is basically dead under OSB. The trainers they had left that still teach ISG and CSG (enterprise and consumer/client technical training) got merged with the sales training teams. Probably best to reach out to them.

Yep. The autonomous AI sales agents can't come soon enough.

AI will be far superior to humans at over-promising and under-delivering terrible solutions. And AI doesnt need a comp plan.

@ck
Dell doesn't want its core sales to be knowledgeable. You don't know how many times all our team has asked to get more technical training, because I don't feel comfortable entering discussions with IT managers having just a bare knowledge of the technology.
The reply we've been getting all these years is: "you're generalists, you're not supposed to have technical discussions, we have specialists for that. Just pitch DTA and bring on specialists".
We've tried to work around that with local management arranging internal talks with presales, but that's not effective, since it's scattered knowledge instead of a properly designed plan.
We've even engaged LnD teams asking to get access to training for TSRs or other specialists, but all you get is pushback because they don't have time.

@ck Product team can’t even deliver their own promises, let alone sales’ promises

maybe you get off of this site and get on the phones and sell. Perhaps that is the problem.

from experience, you sell without knowing the products and then it's up to the product teams to deliver the promises you sold, not knowing how we'll do this or if it is even feasible. You guys will say anything to make a buck and then it is no longer your problem. Happens all the time.

@bk

Don't you worry, with the new Sales Comp plan, you may see less Sales People or get Sales People replaced with less experienced ones. Then you will get the full layoff experience.

@bk what. Are YOU going to be held accountable to the number? If we don't hit the number, not only do we not get paid but YOU get to experience the layoff. Have some respect. We are all in the same sh-t trench together here so it doesn't matter if sales floods this message board or not, let them vent

@bk This is comedy gold. You jokers can’t cope with the pressure you have today never mind having a $20m target that you live or die by. That’s before we get into how you achieve that. How you sell. How you prep. How you talk. How you position. How you close. Wise up Buddy

If you don't like all the sales threads; start your own thread.

Report in about the friggin' layoffs. I could care less about what you do and you don't care what I do. Move on.

..and we create the products you sell and we're also impacted by layoffs. Get off your high horse. Anyone can do your job, I see it every day.

Sales is usually the org that is most impacted by Dell's drastic policy changes. It's the org with the highest attrition, lowest morale, and most neurotic leadership. So naturally you're going to have sales here doing the most complaining and talking.

Doesn't make people in sales any less relevant here. They do pay your salary in the company afterall
