@yb and I totally agree with you. It is hard and people don't realize how hard it is having to meet or walk between them knowing that they won't be part of the team on 11/20. It is a toll we pay as leaders and to meet the numbers we have to choose the low performers and have no way to push back 😢 Not that I want to keep low performers but they have had their chance and they didn't took it for many years thinking that being mediocre is "enough".

@dn I was making a statement that is unfair that decisions like this that are made without us in a room and a majority, not all, are based off of how people lead up, not across or down. I’ve seen it happen a lot. I didn’t like that you were insinuating that I had some way to stop it or it was on me as a Band 5. I know it’s part of being a leader but this is the worst part of being a leader. These are brutal, and I won’t be able to continue to do this year after year and sc--w with people‘s livelihood. I’m ready to go off and do something new anyways and give back instead of continuing to work for greedy corporations. Good luck all!

@d8 as with most it seems,it depends by group and whether they’re expense or capital, we were told 20% for T&M and scope of work could be worse depending on budget

@d5 dude take the chill pill lol you talked about butt kissers not me. I know not even a VP can have anything to fight or say on this and we are all powerless at this point. It is meet the number game and cut from the bottom but if everyone is good at your team then yeah that would be hard. So thanks Mr obvious. You got tilted very quick for band 5 lol ;)

@d5 I have also heard of a support group that's getting hit with 50%. Worst part is that their intl heads are in the denominator, but they were told they can only RIF US. So the US RIFs are going to be > 50%.

@ck Band 5 has the final say, not band 6? Any merit based or just "buddies being kept" ?

@cn, First of all, do not say as a band 5 it’s on me to allow the butt kissers to stay and let the good engineers go... we rate and ranked too, I just had a lot of people on my team who are the solid performers hence my comment splitting hairs. You have no idea what you’re even talking about. You have no idea how much we fight for keeping the right people on. We can only do so much, you think we have so much power at that level your wrong! OK now that I’ve addressed your cr-ppy response, for the other question, yes I heard 50% and yes it is high especially, not knowing what they mean by “support” fully, and how far out that spreads within each business unit. I wish I had more I could say definite, but the information is trickling out. We’ll find out this week as band 5s who gets lets go. If I hear more I’ll post again.

@ck well that is on you as band 5 leader to keep the butt kissing and let the top performers go. As band 6 leader we did it purely performance based in our org and the names completely made sense. The has been a lot of incompetency in Verizon. People just do minimal work and cry about work load all the time

@ck 50% sounds really high! Is that across all orgs in those roles? Or is that specific to the org you are in?

I know with 100% certainty that a 15% reduction in force hit is the lowest across-the-board. Some groups are 20% and groups they are referring to as “support” (think carrier management, contract admin, project management, etc.) are getting hit at 50%. The reason I know this is because I am a leader and I’ve been part of the discussions and I’m so tired of being just number. I know working for a corporation that’s what we are, I’m not naïve or stupid, but doing this at the holidays is brutal. Anyone with a heart hasn’t slept for weeks knowing this is coming. Each of us had to turn in, as a band 5, 15 to 20% of our teams, and for those of us that have solid teams we’re splitting hairs. It was not performance-based because for the most part we have rock stars working at Verizon. They’re going to keep the butt kissing people and let the great engineers go. Latest info I was given was still Nov 20 notification for Band 6-8 and off payroll Dec 20. Normal severance pkg.

"What are the odds that the 20th comes and goes with no announcement?"

It wouldn't be the first time. The rumor mill is constantly churning out fear and despair that is completely unfounded. Three weeks ago everyone was convinced the bloodbath was happening 10/23, it didn't. Is there a huge RIF happening 11/20?? Maybe,I don't know. What I do know is this message board has predicted 15 of the last 5 RIFs.

There will be layoffs on 11/20 so the chance are zero that this day will come without someone let go.

Human Resources pushing out the year end evaluation to the following week makes 11/20 an obvious option.

It appears that several individuals have cited various credible sources indicating that November 20th is the date. However, it’s possible that this information is entirely speculative and lacks any concrete evidence.
