Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

How daft must you be…

To poke this administration. Why, why come out with this media stance now? Keep your head down and plow ahead with your plan. No need to pick a public fight. I haven’t seen a single company win from posturing like this. Apple , Boeing , NVIDIA, Microsoft…. Not a single one has come out on top. If we can bite our tongue to do business in countries with dubious human rights track records, surely we could STFU and just plow ahead silently for 3 years and 3 months more
And to what end, so we can all feel better that we have publicly signaled this.. what’s the point if we just end up getting shadow banned in the permitting and less than favorable tariff carve outs… good grief.

“ Based on its 2021 contract with New Jersey, Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Project 1 was entitled to collect fees for Offshore Wind Renewable Energy Credits (ORECs) at an initial price of $86.62 per megawatt-hour (MWh)”…

That’s $.0866/kWh…

@dc 86/Kwh? If your numbers are correct, I find it hard to understand how the local government would move forward with this project. It either requires significant subsidies, or residents would need to pay much higher electricity rates. The FT article should have pointed this out.

I also agree with the OP. Shell shouldn't publicly complain about this project. This reflects poorly on their government affairs team. Shell is not even a US based corporation.

@f2 agree with ew, not sure they do everything you listed but. But it’s not exhausting, to do all those things you listed. Guess you’re assuming they cut out family memebers? Or are you projecting because someone did that to you?? Only reason to cut someone out is if they’re toxic and don’t show basic human compassion. Feel free to get worked up over that last statement In your head.. love knowing that I’m taking up space in peoples heads.

@ew, does everything in your life align perfectly? Must be exhausting…shopping at stores that share your values, investing in only companies that espouse your morals, cutting off family members that don’t vote like you? How do you keep up with it all? Excuse me for wanting a neutral zone of an employer than just focuses on making money so I can then privately choose how to live my life and prosecute my agenda with what I have accumulated for the well being of my family.

@dc wow that 86c/kwh information. I was wondering why Shell was gung ho about the project from the beginning.

can you other losers save the political arguments for reddit, twitter, and facebook and focus on gossiping and talking sh-t about shell like this forum was designed for?

I wish you people cared as much about all the other school shootings as you seem to care about this one. Just say thoughts and prayers and then pretend like it didn’t happen like every other Republican has every time a bunch of little kids get mu---red.

cherry picking ad hominem. use literally any information tool available on the planet and you will see that you are wrong about the sho-ter. but you won’t, you’d rather dunk on the kiddie hoop and be ignorant.

there is no evidence that the charlie kirk sho-ter was a right winger and circumstantial evidence to the contrary. you are literally just repeating what you have read in comments.

google it. ask an AI about it. dive deep into the wikipedia ( Robinson's views and possible motives section ) on the matter and click on those sources to be sure.

seek facts and evidence. don’t believe stuff commentators write. quit repeating lies.

Now now children… you changed the topic.. I thought this commenter on original topic nailed it.

“Sore loser who can't read the room.
She is complaining about Atlantic Shores, their offshore wind boondoggle (together with EDF who has kept quiet). In the real world, "permitting" is never set in stone. It's a very well understood business risk. Given her background, she would naturally know this. Their EPA permit got yanked in March, after NIMBY enviro groups in Jersey filed various court petitions. Pretty ironic that "green" Shell was getting bested by treehuggers. And now, of course, the entire project is put on hold.

But what she fails to mention (FT - you ought to have pushed her on this) is the off-take pricing arrangement deal. That is scandalous. Shell would have been paid 86 cents/kWh, with a 2.5% annual escalator (the OREC order). Power prices (to households) in Jersey are about 18-23 cents. So here we have a $275 billion global oil company getting paid 3-4x the normal average power price - guaranteed by the tax payer who must buy the expensive power! Shell would never had pursued this project if it had to stand on it's own financial legs.

So this quote from her in the article:
the company wanted to fully participate in the shift to low-carbon energy but it had to make sure the things it invested in were “economically viable”
Yeah - so long as Shell doesn't have to pay for it......
Anyway, the Jersey Utility Board tore up the OREC pricing deal couple months ago so the whole project is totally dead. Even if the Department of Interior decides for some reason to go ahead in the future, these turbines will never see the sea.

She might take a look in the mirror. Classic business case of betting all your chips on a very dicey financial model where someone who loves whales and doesn't want to pay a ransom for electricity can easily ruin your day. Shell managed the wrong stakeholders.”

@cz

your education is from attending a few blue sky and reddit posts and getting scared

we all know who is repeatedly attempting as-----nations on political figures to silence them. and it is not the supposed fascists. things will cool down after orange man is out and you’ll go back to being upset about podcasters having more followers than you for reasons you can’t comprehend.

maybe you should tell your people to cool it before they hit the next archduke ferdinand if you really fear a weimar republic and to go back to their visual novel waifus?

@cq I bet you had coaches teach your history classes in high school. Pull your head out and look around. The rise of fascisim in Na-i Germany followed the same path. It is happening here whether you choose to believe in it or not.

oh yeah. the completely real and serious rise of nazism requires huge counter examples and shell has no signs of tolerance or DEI occurring whatsoever so we better keep on our toes

just to be safe, you should quit and work somewhere else

typical LT member trying to make a legacy by taking a stand

that’s how we wound up with all of these assets that aren’t economical without lots of government money in the first place

i hope trump cancels 45Q and wind. maybe then people will learn a lesson about finances. at least YL has been disciplined enough to cancel some green garbage.
