@fj, they're already using badge scanning data to compile lists here at the Ocotillo campus.

I started going back ! At some point one or the other management crook will use the badge scan as a criteria in their layoff candidate filtering. Given Intel's situation, I foresee more layoffs and gonna take precautions to save my job, atleast till I find next one.
The previous company I came from, the ceo used a similar technique - we got a hint from IT department to scan in by 8.30AM.

@ac exactly, and for those who had to work onsite during the plandemic because they were considered an “essential worker” and had to put up with lots of bullsh-t probably don’t give a flying fu-k for those who are crying about RTO.

I think WFH works if you have a very disciplined first line manager who sets and enforces standards. Too often, there were people who consistently had “connection problems” or who I saw Instagram posts of them in the middle of a lake with a beer in their hand titled: my work space. I swear another person was running a day care in her house because every time we talked, there were kids screaming in the background.

The thing is: most managers don’t enforce work practices. In takes someone who isn’t afraid to be confrontational if needed and I haven’t seen that at Intel lately.

I admit that I miss being on campus because I think you get more from face to face meetings or just picking things up along the way, but I recognize that I’m an Old who might just be stuck in the past. Work was, sadlly, my main social life.

One thing about WFH: if you can do your work from home, can’t someone else from Mumbai or Costa Rica do the same thing? On my last team (I retired) after two years, I was the only person left on US soil.

@ck... you sound like the nahsayers of the late 80 and early 90s of the relevance of PCs and the start of the Internet. AI and quantum computing are real and here to stay. They are just getting started. AI skills are already starting to be as important on the job as knowing Word or Excel. Add PowerPoint if you work at Intel... Quantum computing has the potential to really disrupt our world if it isn't controlled properly. Our current encryption methods which are the core of security for computing would be no match for quantum computing so I wouldn't ignore its existence and development.

You are probably right about RTO being too late to do much for Intel"s recovery. It will just be a tool that they use to cull more of the workforce. Intel still has at least 30K too many employees if any kind of turn around will be possible.

RTO won't make the scam that is AI and quantum computing a reality. That's like saying RTO would save Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. The fact is that Moore's Law is dead and Intel chose to give up before the last few final nodes were achieved.

Some actually went to work during the pandemic . The jobs demanded it . And dragged the s—t home to our families because certain factions of the workforce came in sick.
And you wonder why key people left ?

Intel is in the process of selling off all their buildings. There will be no office to return to. If you haven't figured out what is happening by now I feel bad for you.

Cool. I’ll arrive at 8. Leave at 5. And will not open laptop when I get home. Also will delete Intel email from my phone. If they believe that I can only be productive in a certain building, then I will not work unless I’m in that certain building. I’m sure that will fix everything.
