Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

How is Dell on PIPs?

My last company we-ponized PIPs to get rid of good people without having to pay them severance. Is the situation similar at Dell? I haven't heard of any PIPs since I've been here, but it's only been eight months so it's hard to say.

I got put on PIP when I was 54. First time ever in 35 years employment I was in trouble with HR. Good to know it was not my actions but a way for Dell to harass employees to leave. I suppose it had to do with my salary and age. Fortunately, I stuck it out and retired the next year as planned(55). Sc--w Dell

WFR is easier than PIPs

@5nrf+1pXZqNhT, PIP is not really a yes or no, you could say no but then you're making it more difficult for yourself than agreeing to do it (gives you more time with a yes).

Although nowadays at Dell, a coaching plan/PIP = you're gone sooner or later. And managers are forced to put a certain % either on coaching plan or PIP, no choice.

Always take the pip… they will offer you a severance or a pip. If you take the severance there is a clause that says you can never be rehired by Dell for a Sales role again. This is different from the WFR severance.

@cgo+1pXZqNhT, no, coaching plan and PIP are two completely different things.
Coaching plan is only between you and your manager.
PIPs must be documented fully and HR is involved.

Its called a coaching plan... pre-cursor to expedited approval with HR. Best way to get rid of Tenured males and progress to the 2030 goals. if you go to the office there is a significant impact on older workforce.

start shopping for a real career and be prepared to exit your job at Dell $ell.

I knew 1 person on a pip that got laid off last Feb. It did not impact her severance but was the reason she was chosen for WFR.

PIP is a year long process.
My goal would not be to win over a PIP.
It would be to do as little as possible while looking for another job.

So in a lot of ways it will act as a 6-12 months severance.
It's is invariably more costly for a company to PIP than layoff.

Never heard of a PIP as a way to get out of severance.
It is almost ALWAYS cheaper to lay off and hand out severance.
PIP is a year long process in most companies.

No the PIP is voluntary. You can take a severance and avoid the PIP or go through the PIP, fail and get potentially fired. Alternatively you can make it through the PIP which puts you back in good standing for about a year.
