Oxy and Chevron merger? Lots of efficiencies

As Oxy gets smaller, less complex and has less runway…it’s time to think about an exit plan…the leadership has to be thinking that Buffet is less than 600 days from expiration and self enrichment is the best strategy for the company.

Oxy will not drill its way to prosperity in 2026.

What do the boots on the ground think? About the adventure ahead?

Well, it will either be Chevron or Exxon. Could be either of them. Can't think of any other domestic (i.e. U.S.) companies big enough to absorb OXY. And its unlikely a foreign player would be permitted by the govt to acquire the OPC acreage.

I suspect Berkshire has been in discussions with one -- or both -- of these potential suitors, earlier in 2025. Buffett's successor probably wants OUT of OXY. Probably the suitor has conditioned any offer on Oxy 'slimming down' its assets. So that is why the midstream and Oxychem assets were recently sold off.

Expect an offer in H1-2026. it will have Berkshire's blessing. Its a done deal.

If chevron and Oxy merge, let’s just say that it would look more like the Chevron and Hess deal. It won’t be a merger. It would be an acquisition

VSP to right size so the acquisition can happen

@cf I missed the list. I wasn’t paying attention. Where can I find it again?

@ce Chevron “to” Oxy, not Chevron “too” Oxy.

@aa still not one constructive response to the list of examples showing what Oxy is based on track record, eh?

Same tail between your legs that you had when you ran from Aberdeen. Cowardly.

I don’t think oxy bigotry, bullying and hate will go far at Chevron.

There is a reason those people have gone FROM Chevron TOO Oxy.

Not lipstick on a pig ... In the Thanksgiving theme, the raider will carve up Oxy like a cooked turkey and sell the parts individually. The tasty remaining scraps to be offered to a major. Best news for employees... they may stay attached to the sold assets. Here's to $50 again!

@ap “If no simplification is earnestly initiated”. You’ve been on those vocabulary expansion apps again. Maybe take a break.

@ae Never say Never…Oxy and its artifice is not as stable and resilient as it is portrayed to be…2026 will see significant changes…some tough choices…

If no simplification is earnestly initiated…there will be some very significant challenges up ahead…then some corporate activist will come to put lipstick 💄 on the pig 🐷…
Or some sale paint….

Bye bye to the Denver office when this happens. Just ask Noble and PDC staff.

Piper Alpha guy may be on PTO, or maybe he went back and took his pills. Any CVX acquisition, let's call it that as will never be a merger, seems possible. You just made yourself very attractive unless Oxy buys Devon for example. You need to be an unattractive company to avoid being acquired, on this I will back up 100% VH, the issue was CrownRock, that makes no sense at all. You either buy or get bought, nothing in between. A CVX acquisition will be brutal.

Chevron made 80% of HESS staff redundant...Question.... Did mom turn your bedroom into a craft center yet? Hope not. Between a potential buyout and AI, it's back to community college to learn a paying trade.

You guys are a hoot! With all the expertise that exists here, you should open your own M&A consulting firm. Why pay millions of dollars to these Wall Street finance experts to do complex analyses when you’re right here on The Layoff? Why listen to the portfolio managers from the big investment firms when @a7 says a merger is 100% going to happen. 100%! That’s almost certain.

Agreed that some OXY employees are incompetent, but I assume that is true at Chevron as it is with any company. I’m sure someone will chime in and say that OXY has a greater amount of incompetent individuals, but I don’t believe it. Piper Alpha guy, here’s your chance.

Makes sense from a business standpoint. But would be brutal for Oxy employees. We might get a nice package, and for those retiring good. There are way too many young and mid career folks that might never get a job in oil and gas again. That I would not want to see happen, so I am not for a merger for their sake. Oxy has been around for 100 plus years, so just manage the business right and stay around another 100 years would be nice.

This is 100% happening. Only question is when it will happen. I have predicted that this would happen ever since BH began acquiring OXY. Just look at BH holdings. It’s not rocket science.
