Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Old Dry Frye

Dell has managed to drain much of the satisfaction from the work we do. The things that once made coming in each day worthwhile have steadily disappeared, and the overall experience now feels increasingly driven by employee exploitation rather than mutual respect.

@es - Absolutely true numbers and I have an equal amount in my IRA outside Dell. I am not in sales. I max out each year. Live on less than I make. It was hard some years. The hours for me in engineering and IT were very long and stressful.

@ev - Thanks for the perspective. I hadn't looked at it that way before. They owned me for 23 years now I get 1.

I do remember when the company was very fun and everyone was pulling together in the same direction to make it better and grow. Right now I think to much ill will with us workers across the board to get back to having fun. Maybe in the future everyone will take a breath let the baggage go and get back to pulling together in the same direction to make it fun again. I do hope it gets better.

@da I hope this is not true, but seeing that Dell only does 7.5K into your 401k, I guess it is possible.

Well it’s a good way to look at it, you use them and they use you. Sounds like symbiotic relationship.

After 24 years I have almost 1.5M in my 401K. Just waiting to get tagged with the business update email. I've quiet quit and Dell is easy days compared to years and years and years past jobs.

Joking about mental health isn't funny. If you have issues, you need to seek help. The potential destruction of a life going through this is repugnant.

I’m done…

I take Nefazodone, Trazodone, and Vilazodone just to get through the day.

@cc I have been lucky enough to have a US based manager, but the writing's on the wall. This last round of layoffs trimmed the team to 19.....

@a4 Dell does not see any of us as people or human beings. We are simply a number to Dell, a number they're working overtime on to get us to quit on our own so they don't have to pay severance. Where's the dignity in that?

I sincerely hope these accounts are not genuine. If they are, then it is only logical to conclude that seeking support, improving personal well‑being, and—most importantly—departing Dell would be in your best interest. I have observed multiple organizations, and by comparison, this one exhibits the most structurally counterproductive environment I have encountered.

This compensation plan is not merely a document; it is a quantitative expression of how the company values you. The conclusion is unavoidable: they are attempting to reduce headcount at the lowest possible cost.

We all witnessed the systematic reduction of value placed on the Solutions Engineers, and now the same pattern is being applied to the Sales organization. This is not an environment that prioritizes its people. Instead of offering formal separation packages, they appear to be employing a strategy consistent with constructive dismissal or constructive discharge.

And realistically, what recourse is available? Litigation against a corporation of this scale is improbable for most individuals. Meanwhile, leadership positions remain occupied by individuals who demonstrate minimal empathy while continuing to apply pressure to the workforce.
